The white pod underneath the wing is a data acquisition pod. It works in conjunction with T.V Martel missile.

For a reason I can no longer remember it was necessary for the pods to be mounted backwards.

The television guided Martel is, I believe, a French developed weapon which was used as an anti-shipping weapon.

There's another version of the Martel which is radar guided. This version is also available in the Airfix kit.
