I can't get no satisfaction
I can't get no satisfaction
'Cause I try and I try and I try and I try
I can't get no, I can't get no
When I'm drivin' in my car
And a man comes on the radio
He's tellin' me more and more
About some useless information
Supposed to fire my imagination
I can't get no
Oh no no no
Hey hey hey
That's what I say
I can't get no satisfaction
I can't get no satisfaction
'Cause I try and I try and I try and I try
I can't get no, I can't get no
When I'm watchin' my TV
And a man comes on and tells me
How white my shirts can be
But he can't be a man 'cause he doesn't smoke
The same cigarettes as me
When I'm ridin' round the world
And I'm doin' this and I'm signin' that
And I'm tryin' to make some girl
Who tells me baby better come back maybe next week
'Cause you see I'm on a losing streak
I can't get no
Oh no no no
Hey hey hey
That's what I say
Or - an accidental discovery.
There is a certain satisfaction in discovering through experience the underlying reality of something we take for granted. I mean, we all know what a mile is right - 1760 yards. Well, actually no, it wasn’t that at all, that calculation must have come later, the mile stood alone prior to that.
On my long walks with my guide dog, and later with just my white stick, to pass the time I used to count my paces - sad I know, but I can’t see the scenery, so it kept me awake. I used to count 100 paces on just one foot, on each finger and thumb, and when I had done all digits - 1000 paces, I would transfer a coin to another pocket. As time went on, on certain walks , if there was a marker nearby like a large tree, a road or whatever. - something I could pick up, I would mark the 1000 paces or sometimes 500. One day I went in the car with my wife to see how far a particular walk was and as we drove I asked the distance at the markers I had accumulated, and to my surprise, they coincided almost exactly with 1 mile, or half mile intervals! The fact is - and you can verify this, 1000 strides on one foot is one mile, it is very accurate, to within 20 or 30 paces for me. I am of average height and stride. One hand half a mile, two hands a full mile.
This must be how the distance of one mile came into being, people in times of yore, needed to know how long a journey would take and therefore a standard was set by which anyone could gauge their progress. All you needed was 10 fingers and some stones in a pocket.
As a small boy I can remember seeing very old stone roadside markers - milestones, ’40 miles to London’ or 50 miles to London’ or which ever town, they must be all gone now. Somebody - with a pocket full of stones - must have paced those markers, 100 paces x 10 fingers x 10 stones = 10 miles. He would then leave some sort of marker by the wayside, and later along comes the horse and cart with the large stone markers and drops them off at each marked point.
The measurement of a yard has nothing to do with a mile. The name tells us that, it was obviously a measurement for small pieces of land and fields a *yard*. One day somebody said I wonder how many yardsticks make one of those mile things? They had someone - probably several people walk the mile, then lay down a yard stick at the starting point and discovered you had to flip it 1759 times to reach the mile.
So a mile is not a measurement of yards and feet, it is a measurement of hands and feet, and that photograph above, of all the cow parsley lining the road was taken precisely 3500 paces (on one foot) from my front door, or exactly, three and a half miles……
That moment when they prove you're right

&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&
The fog is gone, the computer is fixed, so I looked for one of my sunniest photos:
These are the balconies on the upper floors of the Accra Hotel in Bridgetown (Barbados Island) seen from the outside. I stayed there for two days in January and a week in April some years ago. Let me explain: I had left the sea almost a year and opened a naval surveyor's office at the Porto Petroli in Trieste, when I received an offer I couldn't refuse: replacing the Chief Officer, who was going on vacation for two months, for steering the most beautiful sailing ship in the world: the five-masted Royal Clipper, which sailed among the magical islands in the Caribbean Sea! Financially, it wasn't particularly advantageous because I had to pay a colleague to replace me in Trieste, but it all brought back fantastic stories of old schooners and battles with pirates; I felt as excited as a child entering in Disneyland!
The 60 days planned then became (to my full satisfaction) 102 and I stayed in this hotel 2 days before boarding and a week before returning home after disembarking
Rivers, streams, flowers and trees enjoy “The Joys of Rain”. Life is enhanced and the earth’s needs are quenched by the sound of a good soaking rain. Plants and animals alike delight in the satisfaction of a decent downpour for obvious reasons . Thanks for viewing and for your comments. Gratitude and Kindness, like the rain, have surrounded the roses.
Almost done, you can see the tail a bit yet, but there is no "You should see the one that got away" story to this montage. It was an interesting and compelling view of nature!
At last I managed to get shots of the young swallows being fed. Previous attempts were curtailed by dull weather, fence posts and a car tooting behind me as I was blocking the road

Description in English, German and Dutch
English:
During my walk from Murnau to Ohlstadt in Bavaria I walked along the Loisach river. The Loisach is a tributary of the Isar and the Isar is a tributary of the world famous Danube. Some parts of the river have a beautiful blue-green color. I decided to get off the trail to get a closer look at the river. When I got close to the current I was enchanted by the beauty of the water and the green surroundings. I was all alone, because the spot I had chosen is not known by tourists, but it is very beautiful. On the waterfront I decided to take some pictures first and then turn my phone off completely. No distraction for a while. With my pants pulled up I walked barefoot into the clear water and that was very cooling on this sun-drenched warm summer day. Staring at the impressive mountains of Garmisch-Partenkirchen, I then stood in the shallow part of the river and decided to close my eyes and think about nothing for a while. It was another special experience in beautiful Bavaria where I experienced a moment of satisfaction and ultimate peace in one of the most beautiful tributaries of the world. All my beautiful experiences of recent times have been made possible by the 9 euro ticket. Unfortunately, everything comes to an end and August 31 was the last day that the ticket could be used. I used it for three months. Only 27 euros for travelling in thee months. Sweet 9 euro ticket, it was an honor to carry you with me in the summer period. I miss you already, but the memories will last forever in the form of my photos. There will therefore be a lot of pictures here on Flickr of my adventures in Germany.
Deutsch:
Even geen afleiding.
Really struggled to think of something original and different for this theme on Crazy Tuesday. I tried a few different ideas but none of them seemed to work, especially not to my satisfaction.
Gave up for a while and decided, mid-afternoon to boil an egg as a snack as feeling a bit peckish and whilst the water was boiling away, the thought struck me that maybe there might be a suitable ‘motion blur’ shot in the pan, not just the egg!
I took some shots and, lo and behold I arrived at some images that might prove suitable, I thought. I chose this one and after a little cropping decided that it was different and in my mind, quite original. The water surface appears smoothed out, adopting an oily look and getting rid of the individual bubbles, small and big. In my mind it looks a bit like transparent lava in the mouth of a volcanic crater! I know, I have a weird brain!
See what you think!
Although doing a "365" is not for everyone, for those that do enjoy it, there is a real sense of satisfaction when number 365 comes around. This is my sincere congrats to all of you in this global community for your significant achievement – you've inspired me, made me smile and laugh, taught me about and showed me new parts of the world, invited me into your journey, pulled at my heart-strings, and given me much to be thankful for.... It's wonderful to be a part of this community. I thank each of you (too many to name) for your faves, and likes, and comments along the journey. From Kamloops, BC, Canada, I wish you all in 2023 a New Year with much laughter, meaningful experiences, and a peace deep in your inner heart. Happy New Year! My dog very satisfied after drinking virgin water of a little hill we climbed at July on our holidays. It was a hot day so we decided to climb the hill to get a bit of that delicious and refreshing water. It was very tasty!

Atticus sure loves it here..fresh mountain air, a new ball and just being outdoors. In his opinion, no comparison to our city living when we aren't here.
The first of 2016. It can look like any other sunrise (or sunset), of course. But some folks wake up early or stay up from last night's New Year's Eve festivities to mark the beginning of another year. If only for the personal satisfaction in knowing that there are 366 days (2016 is a Leap Year) to do things that were unaccomplished in the previous year. Like taking more sunrise/sunset photos. This one, incidentally, was taken with a smart phone.

The Red headed Woodpecker is showing up a lot at the feeders lately. Quite frequently I can spot him flying to one of the pine trees in our backyard and looking round before taking a final swoop down to one of the feeders.
I can only guess he's checking out the competition, or making sure his favorite feeders have been properly filled to his satisfaction.

I don't need you, I want you.
I have no blanks to fill,
I have spaces to share.
I don't expect you to make me happy,
I want to smile at my joy
and make you smile at mine.
I don't love you to death, I'm not yours and you're not mine.
I'm complete even without you,
You are perfect even without me.
I won't die if you leave,
You won't stop being happy if I leave.
You don't take responsibility
Of my personal satisfaction,
I welcome you as a mirror and messenger,
I offer you my eyes to investigate yours.
I do not bind you or let myself be bound by the need to be loved,
from the fear of abandonment.
I am not alone without you,
You are not lost without me.
We are two wonderful precious universes,
complete, perfect,
that meet to create new worlds.
I will not close doors and windows to keep you next to me,
I will not allow you to restrict my flight.
I honor your freedom by choosing mine every day.
