A local told me that this had been the oldest hardware store in San Luis, which is purportedly the oldest town in Colorado. I found an old hardware store two blocks away that might also be a contender for that title. (He was excited that I was photographing it because he thought I might be interested in buying it.)
San Luis, a small ranching settlement along the Rio Puerco in. Sandoval County. Just a few homes here and the pretty San Luis church.
There's never anyone around to ask anything about anything and the church is usually locked.
he taxonomic name Nerium oleander was first assigned by Linnaeus in 1753. The genus name Nerium is the Latinized form of the Ancient Greek name for the plant nẽrion (νήριον), which is in turn derived from the Greek for water, nẽros (νηρός), because of the natural habitat of the oleander along rivers and streams. The word oleander appears as far back as the first century AD, when the Greek physician Pedanius Dioscorides cited it as one of the terms used by the Romans for the plant.

The winter sun rises thorugh tule fog above Central Valley wetlands.
This is my favorite season of the year for a whole bunch of reasons. It brings so many special opportunities here on the West Coast. The fall colors come to the Sierra and then work their way downward and westward over a period of up to three months — and sometimes even a bit longer. The hot, dry season of wildfires and haze comes to an end, replaced by cooler temperatures and much more interesting skies and light as Pacific weather fronts arrive. Migratory birds return to the Central Valley… and once again I get to photograph the tule fog!
This photograph comes from a beautiful tule fog morning in the Central Valley some years ago, a perfect morning when the fog was thick but not so thick as to completely obscure the rising sun, here silhouetting the wetland foliage and gently reflecting on the surface of a pond. What the photograph cannot convey — but what it certainly evokes for me — is the sound of many thousands of nearby geese, cranes, blackbirds, and more.

Interior de la Catedral, edificio de estilo neoclásico construido entre los años 1883 y 1994. Dedicada a San Luis, rey de Francia y patrón de la ciudad. En su interior se conservan los restos del Coronel Juan Pascual Pringles, héroe local.
