By 1890, almost 90,000 people lived in Idaho. In 1889, the Idaho Territory had adopted a constitution. Idaho was granted statehood on July 3, 1890, with Boise as the state capital.
Shown here are the identical homesteads of John and Will Elsasser. In the middle, standing, is John. The man on the right is Will and he is holding John and Ollie's firstborn, May. She was born May Francis Elsasser on Noveber 25, 1892 in Sandpoint.
John and Will cut down trees to make telephone and power poles. They planted an apple orchard here.
Built in 1907, the W.A. Bernd Building was added to the NRHP in 2006.
Sandpoint's downtown is rich with many vintage buildings.
This is from a slide I scanned in. It is my brother and a friend in front of Grandma's in 1953. My Grandma Jessie probably took the picture. They lived at 609 North 4th Street in Sandpoint, Idaho.
The photographs were mostly black and white in those days, but slides were color!
Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way. Oh what fun it is to ride in a one horse open sleigh!
These are my mother's mother's parents. They were married in Denton County, TX in 1891. This photo was taken in Pilot Point, a small town nearby. John's parents came from Germany and Switzerland. Ollie's parents were from Tennessee, but of English and Scottish families.
John was born November 1862 in Chicago. Ollie was born in 1874 in Texas.
Mom's mother was nutty and we knew nothing of her family, but I've turned up quite a lot of fun information. I'll tell their story, one picture at a time.

Another shot from Mirror Lake. We have a nice time this night even if I didn't come back with any stunning images. Last night was the first night I hadn't been out taking some types of photos in it seems like forever, but really it was only a week. The dog nicely woke me up at 3:30 this morning, I think she knew today was going to be a busy day at work. And since I got here it has went from bad to worse. But I will just think about the calm water here and the smell of the camp fire smoke that you can barely see in the upper right corner here. I hope all my wonderful flickr friends have a great day. I am off to payroll, time reports, and expenses!
A short outing to my local woods. Described here...

This was cut out from the Sandpoint newspaper. I'm the Donna in the picture and my brother is Doug Riffle. (No, I didn't take the picture. Mr. Hall did!~)
This is the main street running through downtown Sandpoint. There is currently a bypass being constructed, which will limit traffic in these parts.
