George explains proper sampling technique for 14C in DIC (dissolved inorganic carbon). We'll use this to track what's left of the "bomb peak" of radiocarbon from atomic weapons testing in order to show how long the water has been away from the ocean surface. I'll probably be seeing this sample again in the AMS lab at WHOI after I get back.
The small showroom has a few samples of the various fabrics. For my bag, I chose the Salvage Black Currant color. The material is made from 100% post-consumer beverage bottles.
