Samaras, preparing to travel long distances from the parent tree in order to find a new place to grow...
The fruit of the Japanese Maple. They have to endure a stratification of cold weather before they sprout. Maybe I'll try that sometime.
Japanese Maple. Acer palmatum
Red Maple trees produce double samaras (winged seeds) which known as “spinners” or “helicopters” due to their characteristic descent to the ground. Red maple samaras are red. These samaras disperse in spring before the leaves are fully developed.
Heath and Samara got married on Sunday. It was a beautiful wedding.
I think these two photos could look great on the wall together. What do you think?

I took a walk today following the bridleway out of the village, along a short section by the busy A14 on the edge of Kettering and into Thorpe Malsor, where I walked a short way to the reservoir and found that the footpath across was sectioned off for some reason but had my lunch by the water anyway, then walked to the village of Loddington and back across the fields to Cransley.
This tree caught my eye and a Google search states that they are seedheads of a Wych Elm.
This surprises me because I thought we'd lost all the Elms in the UK. I also learned that these seedheads are known as 'samaras' and are edible, with some people saying they have a pleasant flavour a little like cucumber.
So I guess I'll be walking this way again sometime soon to try them for myself.
It was also great to be out walking and making connections in this new landscape.
