On a recent trip to Britain, bestselling author Haruki Murakami was asked who his favourite Japanese author was. He replied that it was his namesake, Ryu Murakami. Renaissance man for the postmodern age, Ryu Murakami has played drums for a rock group, made movies and hosted a TV talk show. Whilst he was still a student, his first novel Almost Transparent Blue was awarded Japan's most coveted literary prize and went on to sell over a million copies. Ralph McCarthy is the translator of 69 by Ryu Murakami and two collections of stories by Osamu Dazai.

Rurouni Kenshin: Seisōhen (星霜編?), conocido también por su título en inglés (Samurai X: Reflection) es la segunda OVA de la serie de anime Rurouni Kenshin.

El OVA comienza con un montaje de la vida de Kenshin, contados desde el punto de vista de Kaoru. Kenshin, se tortura de nuevo sintiéndose feliz después de un pasado tan destructivo y por eso decide vagar otra vez. Kaoru es fuerte y lo apoya, prometiendo darle la bienvenida a casa con una sonrisa y con su hijo. Durante quince años, él vaga, volviendo de vez en cuando.
Sin embargo, esto hace que su hijo, Kenji Himura sienta un resentimiento hacia Kenshin debido al abandono. En su adolescencia, se marcha para Kioto donde espera aprender el Hiten Mitsurugi-Ryu de Seijuro Hiko, esperando ser tan fuerte como su padre, y crear su propia leyenda. Sin embargo, al poco tiempo Yahiko Myōjin lo detecta a petición de Kaoru.

Rurouni Kenshin: Tsuiokuhen (también llamado Samurái X: Trust and Betrayal o en japonés: 追憶編) es el cuarto OVA del anime Rurouni Kenshin que sirve como precuela de la serie televisiva. Se distribuyó en Japón en 1999.
El OVA cuenta la historia del protagonista, Himura Kenshin y como llega a ser Hitokiri Battōsai consiguiendo esa fama matando personas. Himura tiene seis años cuando comienza el OVA y 18 cuando finaliza. La época dura desde los años finales del Bakumatsu hasta el comienzo de la guerra Boshin.

La historia comienza con chico joven llamado Shinta que es salvado de la muerte por un samurai llamado Seijuro Hiko. Hiko finalmente comienza a entrenar a Shinta para que pueda protegerse el mismo. Después le cambia el nombre, que será Kenshin, un nombre más apropiado para un espadachín.
Durante su tiempo como Hitokiri, Kenshin mata al guardaespaldas Kiyosato Akira, quien es el prometido de Tomoe. El encuentro con Kiyosato le deja a Kenshin con una herida en la cara.

Revived Ricoh Auto-Half with Close-Up Modification
A few months ago I visited famous photographer Ryu Itsuki san's home and acquired dozens of revived Ricoh Auto-Half cameras for our stores. One batch of the cameras was reserved for our new store freshly launched just yesterday. It is LOG-ON in Langham Place where I put them. If you happen to be there, check out the display I made as seen below.
Thanks to Itsuki san's modification, these halves can now focus as close as 0.5m (originally fixed focus), by just adjusting the lens in positions marked on the light meter panel. It has quickly become my LCA alternative, doubling the number of frames to play with and stories to create using 2 half frames each time.
The price is not cheap, but you simply can't find many good quality auto-halves in the market, let alone carefully revived ones equipped with this great close-up hack.
