I could not get these dollies when they were released in 2020 so since a few months ago I have been buying Rainbow High Series 1 in Vinted (second hand). Last week Poppy arrived and so I have completed all the dolls I wanted. After some tender loving care they look like new and I like them so much.

From left to right they are: Jade Hunter (Green), Sunny Madison (Yellow), Poppy Rowan (Orange), Ruby Anderson (Red), Violet Willow (Purple) and Skyler Bradshaw (Blue)

I paired them up for this pic because they both came with hats. Now I realize both their names start with R and both have shirts tied around their waists. They also have a "Sparkle" tag on their shirts. Quite a few similarities, LOL.

I didn’t care for original Ruby that much but I think her cheerleader doll is gorgeous. I saw a big display of all the cheerleader Rainbow High dolls last week at Walmart but couldn’t spend the money. When I had to run in today to do a pickup the display was gone and there was one Ruby in the regular doll section. I figured she was meant to be mine.

Cheer Ruby is one of my favorites from this line. The other being Sunny (and maaaaybe Violet). I just love how fierce and detailed her makeup and outfit are! And her crimped flame red hair is really something special!

My main complaint with this doll is... what's with all the crazy high defect rates?! I honestly could not find a decent Cheer Ruby even after visiting eight stores! In the end, I had to settle with only semi-decent ones (I know, such first world problems 😅).

I guess I really need to lower my expectations for these playline MGA dolls when it comes to defects, so I can properly appreciate and enjoy collecting them more.

So being an "international" doll collector - I could only resort to purchasing my Rainbow Highs from Amazon. I ordered three of each Poppy and Ruby to increase my chances of getting a "perfect" doll.

Two out of three of my Poppys were almost perfect, the other one had a very minor paint defect on a lip corner. Whereas, all three of my Rubys had some issues. One had very minor paint loss over her brown eyeshadow, and the other two had the dreaded wonky eyes -___-.

Fortunately, these dolls have inset eyes, and I've seen people fix them online so I decided to give it a go myself. I thought it might be helpful to post my process, in case another poor collector like me faces the same issue.

So I've watched people fix the eyes by removing them with boiling water and screwdriver. The most thorough one is the YouTube video by xCanadensis

I'm less adventurous, and I'm one of those collectors that baby my dolls like glass and would much prefer leave them untouched in their boxes if at all possible... so I wanted to try something less "invasive".

The first thing I tried was simply rubbing down on the eye towards the desired direction. I washed my thumb before to remove any oil to maximise the amount of friction I could create with the eye. I made sure to secure the head down with my other hand whilst doing this. It did work to a degree, and may be all you need if your doll has very minor eye wonk.

The next thing I tried was heating up the doll's head a little to soften the plastic. I normally prefer to do this with a hairdryer as I detest getting my dolls wet... but because Rainbow High dolls have rooted lashes, I was worried I may inadvertently deform or melt them. So I opted for some hot water.

I found the hottest water from my tap was enough to soften the plastic adequately for this process, and I didn't need to use boiling water. After placing the doll's face under the tap in running hot water for about 30 seconds, the plastic became quite soft and I was able to rub the eye further into the desired position. You want to press down on the eye then push along the direction you wish for it to move towards. You may want to remove her clothes before doing this in case they get wet. I was able to get away with just wrapping her clothed body in a towel.

You can repeat this process as many times as you need. Just be careful not to scrunch up her lashes while pressing and pushing.

And voila! Problem fixed! This should work pretty well for dolls with mild or moderate eye wonk. If your doll is super crazy wonky, you may still need to remove and resite the eyeball completely as shown in xCanadensis' video.

Now I can look at both of these ex-wonky Rubys with love, rather than disgust and derision x'D.

Now I just need Cheer Sunny, Violet and maaaybe Skyler to complete my Cheer collection (sorry Jade!).

New Zealand finally got our Stella Monroe, and some of the Rainbow High Cheer dolls. I'm still waiting on both Amayas, Cheer Sunny and Cheer Violet. I really wish they'd bring the new RH releases here earlier, like with OMG remix dolls. Unfortunately, the defect rates were pretty high, especially with the cheer dolls. I had to visit eight stores just to get a semi-decent Cheer Ruby.

I decided to swing by Sylvia Park after work today, and secured three good dolls! As per my latest Rainbow High ramblings, I've decided to truly lower my expectations with these dolls - and that seemed to have worked! The mind and perception are immensely powerful.

I passed up on these very same dolls just yesterday, but today when I gave them another chance, and looked them all over; I realized these three were actually pretty decent... especially the Stella! I'm not sure why I passed up on her yesterday. Perhaps it was due to my overwhelming pessimism and frustration from a combination of eccentric unrealistic standards, low blood sugar and lack of caffeine.

Regardless, in the end I'm delighted I managed to pick up my third and final Stella, third Cheer Ruby (who is probably the best out of the three I own currently), and a second Cheer Poppy (who doesn't have messed up nails like my first one). Today was a very fruitful harvest indeed! :)

More pics of the lovely Miss Ruby Anderson! :D I initially only planned on getting Ruby and Poppy; then I got Sunny for her clothes... and now I've caved and ordered three Violets from Amazon. Fingers crossed there will be a decent one out of the lot, since I've read the most horror stories with her ^^" I've also ordered another Poppy and Ruby in hopes of getting ones I can keep in box ^^

I'm super excited about my upcoming custom doll project! I will be rerooting + doing an eye swap using these three girls. I've already ordered a bunch of hair from several different merchants and I'm anxiously awaiting their arrival! In the meantime, I've been perfecting my eye swap technique on some old Rainbow High dolls, I think I have it down with minimal risk of damage to faceup and lashes.

Oh gosh, I can't stop gushing over these stunning dolls! I've washed her hair so her beautiful thick red locks are luscious and soft. Ruby's my favourite from series 1 (I may be biased because she reminds me of Ariel). I am only collecting Ruby and Poppy from this series. I've also ordered Sunny, but mainly for her clothes.

personal note

she is the first second hand rainbow high doll I have found!

I was tempted to get her new but though I love the quality of rainbow high they aren't my favorite doll line in the world. but I am really happy to have found one second hand for a much more reasonable price!

she is absolutely beautiful and I'm happy shes part of my collection!

I'm sorry, but move over Monster High! Ruby's so stunning she outshines them hands down! Maybe it's time to downsize my Monster High collection further, and collect the rainbow instead!

Character: Ruby Anderson

Line: Series 1- Rainbow High

When I got her: July 30th 2020

Where: Super Target

Personal Fact: I had previously seen stock images of all 6 of the Series 1 girls about a month or so before their release. I wasn’t completely in love with their design at first and it was a big departure from the dolls I usually go for. At this point I was already in the depths of my Lol omg collection/obsession so I was excited at the fact that MGA was releasing a new doll line, especially a “high school” themed line. It was right only just about a couple weeks after their street date release that during a trip to target I picked up all 6 of the girls. I remember intentionally being super drawn to Sunny and Jade but slowly coming to appreciate the whole collection and each doll for different reasons. Looking back their fashions are a bit safe and outdated/tacky but I couldn’t have predicted the kinds of dolls MGA would continue to release afterwards, and Rainbow High would come to be one of my favorite doll lines to collect.

I'm hopelessly in love with these stunning Rainbow High dolls from MGA. The level of details is insane. They are basically a much more affordable version of BJDs. I plan to post more pics once I debox them 😍.

Ruby shares the same name as my first car 🚗. She's absolutely breathtaking, and is most definitely my favourite doll from series one.

All the Rubys at the local stores had issues. This was the best one I could find, and she's beautiful! I'll continue scouring the stores regularly for the elusive "perfect" Rainbow High dolls for my in-box collection.

So Ruby's my favourite Rainbow High doll from Series 1. I wish I'd ordered more from Amazon on initial release, because the first few sent were all first edition Rubys. These had much prettier face-ups with less defects and thicker hair. I ended up keeping and deboxing two, and was later dismayed to find the ones sent to New Zealand stores were all re-release Rubys.

I really wanted to display at least one "perfect" first edition Ruby still new in her box, so I resorted to Ebay. Price was 3x more than what I'd pay locally, but it's so worth it because she's absolutely gorgeous! I feel all excited and jittery every time I see her on my shelf x').

This is one of my Rubys bought in New Zealand rebodied onto a Winterbreak Ruby body so she has neck articulation. The body was slightly stained in the arms and legs so I had to destain with Remove-Zit cream.

The Rubys distributed to New Zealand mostly had super thin rooting, and this one was no exception. I ended up having to root her with extra hair then recurling with a handheld steamer.

I've always really liked S1 Ruby's second outfit, but it does feel a little bare. Heather's over the shoulder bone jacket remedies this nicely without having to cover all her arms up.

Character: Ruby Anderson

Line: Cheer- Rainbow High

When I got her: December 26 2020

Where: Super Target

Personal Fact: When I tell you I was so hype when Rainbow High announced a cheer line. It gave me so much nostalgia and flashbacks to the fearleading squad back in Monster High’s earlier days- I was never able to get any of those dolls from that line. Ruby initial stuck with me because of her long crimped hair and her outfit. I knew I had to snag her Jade, and Poppy at Target! When I finally got her I was completely blown away by her quality- from her makeup, how full her hair was rooted, and even her outfit. It was so cool to see Rainbow High continue on the deigns of the 6 core girls in other lines. I was super disappointed that they didn’t come with stands, I didn’t mind the no second outfit mainly because they were just cheer dolls, but as a collector not having a stand for dolls is rough.

Ruby's flame boots are fierce!!
