Ruby Beach, located about 35 miles south of the town of Forks ("Twilight") on Washington's Olympic Peninsula, is one of the most scenic beaches in the state that is accessible to the public. It offers rugged sea stacks, flat sand, and a small stream that flows through it just at the base of the short trail from the parking lot.
Ruby's Redondo Beach closed on Sept 8, this was a farewell cruise. This cruise was usually Fridays and lasted 17yrs.

This is an immature Ruby-throated Hummingbird. You can tell by the strips or spots on his throat. Next season he'll have his ruby colored throat!

BEST VIEWED LARGE!
This is yet another Ruby-Throated Hummingbird, but there's a twist... This feeder is a window-mount type, so it allows me to get REALLY close for those amazing shots. In fact, I was watching birds through my bins, through this window when I saw a hummer come by. He approached cautiously, and landed on the feeder. I mean this window is in the living room, so it's very big. And I'm standing inches from the window. So you can imagine how I felt when I saw this. A light-bulb went off in my head.
I gathered my father's Manfrotto tripod, set my camera up on it, and lowered the camera till it was at hummer-eye level. Unfortunately, the streaks on the glass were too distracting, so I moved the camera up so that it looked down at the feeder from a 45-degree angle. But the hummer didn't come back while the tripod was in this position. Bummer, I'll try again next week.
This weekend was a good one for me, as I counted a record 9 species of birds at our cabin, got three lifers there just in August 2006 alone, and saw my first Ring-Necked Snake!
I got some oil pastels for Christmas and some black paper. This is my first attempt at using both. Ruby lives in Scotland with my sister in law.
