Ruby Tuesday (4,871 square feet)
2757 Godwin Boulevard, Suffolk, VA
This location opened in fall 2005.
Ruby-throated Hummingbirds have many skeletal and flight muscle adaptations which allow the bird great agility in flight. Muscles make up 25-30% of their body weight, and they have long, bladelike wings that, unlike the wings of other birds, connect to the body only from the shoulder joint. This adaptation allows the wing to rotate almost 180°, enabling the bird to fly not only forward but also straight up and down, sideways, and backwards, and to hover in front of flowers as it feeds on nectar and insects.
During hovering, ruby-throated hummingbird wings beat 55x/sec, 61x/sec when moving backwards, and at least 75x/sec when moving forward.
Ruby loves her frosted cookies and sprinkles! She won't risk anyone stealing them!
BTW: Please ignore the fact that, while I am indeed 22 years old, my voice sounds much closer to 5 when heard on recordings...
In relation to my last post...........great news, Ruby came home from the vets yesterday.
This is a gorgeous Lollypot that Ruby's family sent to me as a thank you for Willy donating his blood.
It was so thoughtful of them, we were so pleased to be able to help.
I hadn't know that cat's were able to donate blood. The vet told us they need to be under 8 years of age & approximately 5 kilos.
Willy had to be sedated & had his fluffy collar shaved.

Ruby-throated Hummingbirds fly straight and fast but can stop instantly, hover, and adjust their position up, down, or backwards with exquisite control. They often visit hummingbird feeders and tube-shaped flowers and defend these food sources against others. You may also see them plucking tiny insects from the air or from spider webs.

Ruby-throated Hummingbird at Heinz NWR. Not a very good shot because he is very small and was far away, but it's not often that you see a hummingbird perched in a tree.

Ruby Falls is the tallest underground waterfall open to the public in the United States. Falling more than 145 feet inside the limestone interior of Lookout Mountain, the falls are 1,120 feet below the surface of the mountain. Discovered in 1928 by Leo Lambert and named for his wife, Ruby, the falls are reached by descending a 260-foot shaft in a glass-fronted elevator before walking through half a mile of caverns. Chattanooga, Tennessee. (Nathanael Miller, 02 August 2022)
I finally got my camera back from the shop. I HAD to go out in the snow and try to get some good shots (I was going through withdraws! It snowed in IN today and yes, I stood out in the snow and 20 degree temps. This little visitor was new to my backyard. I had never seen one in person. At first I thought it was a yellow finch and then my neighbor told me it was a Ruby-crowned Kinglet. She said they usually don't make it as far North as our backyard.

Thanks To: Gwen for your help on this shoot.
This lovely lady is actually one of the Make Up Artists I work with, who after much persuading finally plucked up the courage to get in front of my camera recently. Not only is she the model but she also did her own make up for this shoot too. I think she looks fantastic, I hope you all agree.
