We stayed in the small town of Ross on Wye in Herefordshire for a few days last week , it was a good base to explore the area. We managed to visit Tintern Abbey, Hereford, Hay on Wye, the Forest of Dean and the Malvern Hills . All these places were completely new to us so it was an interesting few days This shot of Ross is taken from the banks of the River Wye
THANKS FOR YOUR VISIT TO MY STREAM.
I WOULD BE VERY GRATEFUL IF YOU COULD NOT FAVE A PHOTO
WITHOUT ALSO LEAVING A COMMENT .
It was so nice to see all the birds at the platform at the entrance to Colusa National Wildlife Refuge. There were birds everywhere and we were excited to get this pair of Ross’s Geese flying high together.
Both Ross’s and Snow Geese have seen population explosions as climate change has warmed their arctic breeding grounds, reducing snow cover and increasing plant growth. The two species seem to be hybridizing more frequently as warming allows their breeding ranges to come into contact.

From historical sources it is clear that Queen Cleopatra used tones tending to crimson, while Nefertiti preferred the ruby red obtained from a particular type of henna and a few drops of blood.
On my way to Tasmania’s east coast, I took an impromptu short detour to the hidden gem of Ross, a sleepy little hamlet that feels like a step back in time. What a surprise packet it was! Nestled roughly halfway between the island’s north and south, Ross is just off the main highway, and the slight diversion was absolutely worth it.
This beautifully preserved village is known for its charming sandstone buildings and quiet, old-world streets. Travel blurbs note that "because it’s largely bypassed by modern traffic, Ross has retained its 19th-century character — almost like stumbling into a British village from the 1800s"
At the heart of town lies one of Australia’s most curious intersections, poetically named "Temptation, Recreation, Salvation, and Damnation". On Temptation corner stands the historic Man O’ Ross Hotel. Recreation is marked by the old Town Hall. Salvation is home to a Catholic Church, and Damnation — appropriately — is the site of a former jail, now a private home.
This photo was taken while walking from town along a leaf-strewn path to the Ross Bridge, Australia’s third-oldest bridge. Up close, you’ll find 186 unique carvings, each created by convict stonemasons. Their craftsmanship was so exceptional that they were all granted their freedom!
And then — a moment of pure bliss: sitting outside the Ross Bakery in the crisp, "quite fresh" air, admiring the beautiful old town, indulging in an unbelievably delicious seafood scallop pie (unique to Tasmania as far as I can tell) and a vanilla slice which left me covered from head to foot in icing sugar. It doesn't get any better :)
And this was all just enroute to the wild beaches I’d been craving. What a start to my solo photography road trip!
Have a great week, thanks for any comments, they are greatly appreciated !

Ross Castle (Irish: Caisleán an Rois) is a 15th-century tower house and keep on the edge of Lough Leane, in Killarney National Park, County Kerry, Ireland. It is the ancestral home of the O'Donoghue clan, later associated with the Brownes of Killarney
