while it's SO good to be home today, after traveling for 10 days and then a week of being evacuated from our local firestorms, a little piece of me is still back in Djupavik, gazing down the fjord... i can't wait to go back.

While on vacation this year I experimented with making abstract landscapes with multiple exposures of the view from where I stayed. Starting today I'm posting the results for the rest of Polaroid Week. Let me know what you think.

looking north past the eucalypts toward the Petaluma River, last December (a few weeks later, that entire landscape in the distance was under water with storm-caused flooding)

across the landscape, occasionally the grasses and mosses would form these tufts -- between a foot or two high, mimicking the stone piles one sees almost everywhere in Iceland. i want to go back and photograph more of them, but this one caught my eye every time we passed it.

it started life designed to sail on lakes, was used as an ocean ferry out of Reykjavik for a while, and eventually was beached here as a dormitory for the men who worked in the herring factory at Djupavik.
it's the start of Polaroid Week again, hooray! and i haven't had time, with the fires here at home, to scan anything. but here's an iPhone snap of a pinhole from Iceland. I will replace it with a real scan once i can...
