The Neo-Classical facade of San Rocco in Rome, the church neighbouring Augustus' mausoleum and the Ara Pacis museum.

The church is dedicated to Saint Roch (Rocco in Italian), the patron saint of (among other things) plague victims, and this church was built as an accompaniment to a hospital, the whole complex being founded as an answer to the bubonic plague that struck Rome in 1477.

The church replaced an older church in the area, but not even that church is the one you see today. In 1654 rumours spread that an icon the church had led to miracles, and the money generated from pilgrims to the site meant a new, Baroque church could be built.

But the facade is actually even younger that that, built in 1834 by the architect Giuseppe Valadier. This makeover was probably due to the church having been turned from being a hospital church to a parish church just some ten years earlier. Going for a new, fresh statement look would not be strange then.

Last night as he was working on fixing the landscaping at the Studio/Galleries rebuild. He's definitely the builder in the family. It's coming along! He's the best!

The mouth of the Saint Rocco tunnel - the tunnel is over 5.5KM long and traverses the Velebit mountain range.

Run away, run away and save something in you / and don't let them do it / don't become a man to burn / The air, the air you breathed a short time ago / still has its scent / of real things, of pure things, of freedom.

He had a Yoda air about him as a puppy. This was taken about a year ago. He's all grown up now and creating mischief for my Sister :) <3<3<3

Every ranch needs a great dog. Looks to me like he has a great life. I couldn't resist giving him a bite of food. Actually I don't know his name. He looks like a "Rocco " to me.

Saint Roch or Rocco (lived c. 1348 – 15/16 August 1376/79 (traditionally c. 1295 – 16 August 1327) was a Catholic saint, a confessor whose death is commemorated on 16 August and 9 September in Italy. He is specially invoked against the plague. He may also be called Rock in English, and has the designation of St Rollox in Glasgow, Scotland, said to be a corruption of St. Roch's Loch. He is a patron saint of dogs, falsely accused people, bachelors, and several other things. He is also the patron saint of Casamassima, Italy

The old boy does love the snow. We had more snow in Pittsburgh this December than we had all of last winter. Not so fun fact.
