Volt is a lightning catcher. Being that robots such as him run on electricity, they catch it, sell it, use it for power, and use it as a weapon. His lightning rod/staff, doubles as a lightning attractor as well as a sort of lethal cattle prod.
The idea behind this was to create a robot where his mechanical skeleton appears hidden beneath a a covering of fabric or as it turned out here, rubber. I suppose I subconsciously based him off of the characters from the upcoming film, 9.
I teach Robotics in a large, urban, public high school. It actually IS very much the way you image in to be based on movies and TV shows. It's an awesome gig. This is one student's in-progress final project. At the beginning of the term he asked me what he should build, and I said that what I've always wanted was my own personal robot army.
The Automated Combat Unit Mod. R-Box was firstly deployed during the Khhutrys crisis [I invented the name while writing this, so if it resembles/reminds something else it’s a mere coincidence] to clear a path through the environmentally hostile mining caves in order to reach the pirates who seized the control of the local outpost.
The operation was a brilliant success and the R-Box model entered mass production shortly after. Nowadays the many variants of the R-Box Unit can be found across the entire Galaxy; from the military detachments escorting exploration missions to the security teams of research facilities.
The protagonist of this photo is a very interesting action figure called “Robox” and manufactured by Japanese 1000toys company. Unlike most of the figures available it is not based on some series but its an original character they made as first release in a line of Robot figures.
It can transform from a box shape to humanoid form, hence the name Robox, even though it requires several passages and I personally prefer keeping it in humanoid form.
It has a sort of minimalist design but it’s a very high quality item.
I will surely take more photos of this figure :)

Be sure to check out the entire set (it includes a short movie).
One of my earliest creations that wasn't a rainbow warrior. I made this when I was 5, and gave it to my Mom as a present. It's been collecting dust on her desk, so I thought I would post it for the heck of it.
This is a scene during the robotics competition sponsored by the ECE department at BYU. Robots chased each other around the oval track to see which was the fastest.

ok, so I was daydreaming a bit at work one day, and looked at the photo booth pictures I have hanging in my cube, and this idea popped into my brain.

I think this is one of my favorite things I've ever made.

Tried to make a big robot with enough articulation to allow for some posing. Especially like how the head turned out.
I was thinking about selling this on Ebay. John and I took it to the studio and made a nice set-up for it with a big foam astroid that my friend Hunter made for a movie called Zero Prospect. We put a green light on it and shot this. The robot walks a few steps and the a little movie is projected on his chest. I ended up never listing it.

Dobar Robot

I'm not the best at making up names, so I'll say as it is... a robot dinosaur ...it's also been a while since I've made any formal robots
Functionality includes... movement in any possible way and my favorite bit... the legs are rubberband powered
