Am I Blue?

Am I blue

Am I blue

Ain't these tears in my eyes telling you

Am I blue

You'd be too

If each plan

With your man

Done fell through

Was a time

I was his only one

But now I'm

The sad and lonely one, lordy

Was I gay

'Til today

Now he's gone and we're through

Am I blue

Was I gay

'Til today

Now he's gone and we're through

Am I blue

Oh, he's gone, he left me

Am I blue

I never feel a thing is real

When I'm away from you

Out of your embrace

The world's a temporary parking place

Mmm, mm, mm, mm

A bubble for a minute

Mmm, mm, mm, mm

You smile, the bubble has a rainbow in it

Say, its only a paper moon

Sailing over a cardboard sea

But it wouldn't be make-believe

If you believed in me

Yes, it's only a canvas sky

Hanging over a muslin tree

But it wouldn't be make-believe

If you believed in me

Without your love

It's a honky-tonk parade

Without your love

It's a melody played in a penny arcade

It's a Barnum and Bailey world

Just as phony as it can be

But it wouldn't be make-believe

If you believed in me

Not sure the story on this seemingly abandoned mansion near downtown Freeport,IL. It is right on a main street, and interestingly located right next to a '20s-'30s themed nightclub. As I was taking this pic,a blues band dressed in period clothes was playing about 100 feet from me-I believe it was some kind of "roaring '20s" party....Al Capone would have felt right at home!

Happy Monochrome Monday all!

For anyone who follows my photostream, you will know that I am a big collector of things. I have many, many different collections, including a collection of antique and vintage umbrellas and parasols. They range in age from my oldest parasol, which is frilled silk with a duck beak handle from the 1820s through to some vibrant examples from the Jazz Age of the 20s and the sleek and stylish 30s.

In this photo, I have photographed part of two from the latter part of my collection. The green umbrella is made from Rayon, commonly known as artificial silk from its invention in 1846 until 1924. Since the name Rayon is proudly stitched into the edging of this umbrella, it dates from the late 1920s. It is a "Paragon" umbrella made by S. Fox and Company in England. It’s companion, also a "Paragon" umbrella made by S. Fox and Company is an exuberant example of roaring 20s fun! This umbrella was made in the era when plastic was a new and expensive material. The handle is wood, but the "hooky" head in the shape of a question mark, is made of Bakelite. Bakelite was the first plastic made from synthetic components. It was developed by the Belgian-American chemist Leo Baekeland in Yonkers, New York in 1907. S. Fox and Company was established in 1868 and still manufacture umbrellas in England to this day.

The theme for “Looking Close on Friday” for the 11th of November is “red and green”. Whilst I love Christmas, it is perhaps a little early to go digging out the Christmas ornaments for the theme. I had originally thought to photograph some of my red roses in the garden, as it is spring where I live, but the constant and torrential rain we have had lately has spoiled them all. It was the rain that made me think of these brollies as a choice for the theme. Ironically I photographed these on my front porch during a momentary burst of rare spring sunshine. I do hope you like my choice for the theme, and that it makes you smile.

……This is the Roaring 20’s but no Wolf Whistles please!! A shapely pair of Art Deco Porcelain Pin Cushion Doll legs - the legs & body were separate enteritis and were often dressed in a crinoline dress and used as a pin cushion. Perfect candidate I thought for this weeks Macro Monday’s theme ‘Pairs’. I set this up with the ‘onlookers’ which is a postcard called ‘My Lady Molly’ (posted 13/03/1904 bearing a ½d King George stamp) and gave her a no expense spared Burr Walnut dance floor (Jewelry Box). Lighting was natural light coming from both sides. Happy Macro Monday, Alan:-)…..

Great Uncle Adriano J. Peg was a shadowy figure in the Manigotapi underworld. His Deadly Viper Assassination Squad carried out hits throughout the Gulf Coast for the Matranga family and occasionally took contracts in West Texas and New Mexico. It is thought by some researchers that he inspired David Carradine's character in the Kill Bill movies, but Quentin Tarantino disputes that.

In the bootlegging days of the Roaring Twenties, business was good for Adriano J. Peg. Unfortunately a failed hit on a Las Vegas gangster left Adriano with only three of his original six vipers. He immediately went into hiding after Benjamin Siegel put a price on his head. From an undisclosed motel (frequently believed to be the Canary Inn in Biloxi Mississippi) Adriano J. Peg revamped his squad of three assassins using an intercom system and telephone to maintain communication and provide for his own security.

The aforementioned researchers point to the striking similarities between Adriano J. Peg and Charlie Townsend of "Charlie's Angels" fame during this time. However, the three remaining women were never known collectively as Adriano's Angels and it does not appear they ever provided investigative services except for one affair known as the Miami Aspergillum Incident of 1933, and that could hardly be called uncorrupt.

Adriano J. Peg resurfaced briefly in Barbados where he tried to raise an army of women to disrupt the fascist regime in Italy after the Abyssinia Crisis of 1936. Unfortunately there is little trace of Adriano J. Peg afterwards. However at the Canary Motel in Biloxi Mississippi the intercom at the front desk will occasionally broadcast a strange crackling request for Lucy, ammunition and Cuban cigars to be sent to Suite 18. Suite 18 was destroyed in a tractor trailer mishap in 1953. Only a field of unkempt weeds and a concrete foundation remains where it once stood.
