A NH90 of the Belgian Air Component's 40 Squadron sat beneath the lights at Koksijde AB, the distinctive rotor tip lights can be seen as a bright green strip across the image.
The NH90 NFH is capable of anti-submarine warfare (ASW) and anti-surface unit warfare (ASuW). However the primary role in Belgian service will be replacing the ageing Sea King fleet due to be retired in March 2019 as Belgium's search and rescue (SAR) platform, operating from Koksijde AB.
