Rishikesh es una ciudad del distrito de Dehradun en el estado de Uttarakhand, en la India. Está situada en las estribaciones del Himalaya y atrae miles de peregrinos y turistas cada año.
Es conocida como la puerta del Himalaya, pues sirve de punto de partida a los peregrinos del Char Dham que visitarán Badrinath, Kedarnath, Yamunotri y Gangotri y se encuentra a 25 km de otra ciudad sagrada, Haridwar.
Rishikesh es popular también entre los practicantes del rafting de aguas blancas, debido a la cantidad de espuma que tienen los rápidos de niveles
En febrero de 1968, los Beatles visitaron el ahora cerrado áshram del Maharishi Mahesh Yogi en Rishikesh. Durante su estancia en el áshram de Maharishi compusieron unas 48 canciones, muchas de las cuales aparecen en el White Album. John Lennon grabó en este lugar la canción "The happy Rishikesh song

Ram Jhula is a famous landmark place in Rishikesh city. It is an iron suspension bridge over holy river Ganga. Ram Jhula has the length of 450 feet connecting Shivananda Ashram with Swargashram. Ram Jhula also offers a panoramic view of river Ganga and Rishikesh city having number of temples.

Located in the foothills of the Himalayas in northern India, it is known as the 'Gateway to the Garhwal Himalayas'[1] and 'Yoga Capital of the World'.[2]: It is approximately 25 km (16 mi) north of the city Haridwar and 43 km (27 mi) southeast of the state capital Dehradun. According to Census of India, 2011 Rishikesh had a population of 102,138 making it the seventh most populated city and the largest municipal council in the state of Uttarakhand. It is known as the pilgrimage town and regarded as one of the holiest places to Hindus. Hindu sages and saints have visited Rishikesh since ancient times to meditate in search of higher knowledge.
