subatomic Midibox SID V2

synthesizer in old vintage commodore c64 computer case

read about this DIY project here in the work blog: www.subatomicglue.com/sidl0g/

This is a MidiboxSID, a synthesizer that has sound chips from the original commodore 64 personal computer from the 1980's. These sound chips are called the SID 6582

The synth is built into an original Commodore 64 computer case. And features 8 SID chips (4 stereo pairs - one SID per ear x 4 voices). Each SID chip has 3 oscillators and a variety of other features like filters, ADSR, ringmod, sync. The synth has a very flexible (and simple to use) modulation matrix, LFO, bassline sequencers, and stores patches in presets.

A Bode ring modulator.

Modular synthesizer made by Maplin.ETI stands for Electronics Today International.It had 2 divisions.1 in the UK and 1 in Australia.The black faced 4600's are UK models,while the grey faced models are Australian.It consists of: 4 VCO's,2 filters,2 VCA's/Ringmods,Noise,keyboard controller,5 mixers,3 envelopes,equalizer,2 external inputs,pinmatrix 22 x 22.Sounds very unique.

Prototype of Space Baby (no soldermask, no silkscreen, no battery holder). First demo here; more info on my website. The final version of this kit will debut at Handmade Music Austin on Feb 28, 2010, along with the Bleep Labs PicoPaso.

this is a opamp based ringmod (from robert irvine's book). i added two VCA's, so now both the carrier and the modulator signal are voltage controllable.

it sounds different to a AD633 ringmod.

Passive dual diode ring modulator with internal connections that can be break by inserting audio plugs.

When only input 1 and 2 are used, output 1 is the ring modulation output, output 2 is the singal of output 1 being modulated again by input 2 (de-modulation output).

When input 1, 2, 4 are used, output 1 is the ring modulation output, output 2 is the singal of output 1 being modulated by input 4.

When all 4 inputs are used, it can be 2 totally indepented ring modulators.

Very versatile!
