Near sunset capture along the north rim of the Grand Canyon. Was still using the CPL filter here at this time, and the effect on the clear sky with some haze turned out kind of neat I think.

Thank you all for taking a close look at my gallery, its much appreciated!

After spending some time on the shuttle system at Grand Canyon I also walked the rim for a couple of miles which provided some great opportunities for interesting compositions. If you ever find yourself on the south rim spend the time to walk the rim, It's a nice paved trail with spectacular views all along the trail, including the Desert View Tower which is slightly visible in the far background.

Thanks for taking the time to take a look at my photos, and as always, your views, comments, faves, and support are greatly appreciated!! Have a great weekend my friends :)

If you have any questions about this photo or about photography in general, I will do my best to help, just post a comment or send me a Flickr mail and I will respond as quickly as possible.

Grand Canyon, Arizona, Colorado, River, winter, snow,

The afternoon sun breaks through the clouds and lights up Stillwater Canyon of the Green River and the vast rocky terrain of eroded cliffs, buttes, and side canyons, dominated by the bright White Rim Sandstone. A section of the Green River is visible in the upper left quadrant as it loops around Turks Head (isolated butte in the center right) and flows back to the left toward its junction with the Colorado River.

Getting to Murphy Bench on the White Rim Road where this photo was taken involved traveling some gooey roads fed by snowmelt from recent storms, with precipitous drops on the roadsides or steep inclines. Getting off the north side of Murphy Bench was also exciting with a snowy/icy road resembling a toboggan run. Not surprisingly I didn’t see anyone else for the final three days of the trip. In retrospect the challenge of the road was a small price to pay for the isolation in a sublime landscape.

The view from Murphy Bench looking south across bends in the White Rim towards the Needles District of Canyonlands National Park, with Horse Mountain and Elk Ridge on the horizon.

Wahey! Managed to recover my fluffed shots so I get the classic image to add to my collection after all. Took a fair bit of cloning and cleaning but got there in the end. Pity about the peeps but hey, scale.

I Google'd this and not surprisingly found hundreds of near identical images. Hey-ho. Couldn't not do it though, could I?

So.. lots of pictures taken with the X-E1, stitched in Microsoft ICE and then cleaned and tweaked in a bunch of other software. Threw in a shade of cross processing for that edgy, ain't I a cool dude look. Does it suit me?

Thanks for visiting and please come again soon.. no really..

Regards

Go on, dare you :D

Early morning sunrise light at the Grand Canyon. The colors on the rocks were amazing.

A view of the Grand Canyon from the West Rim. Taken in 2008.

Light sources from the sky, south rim visitor center across the Grand Canyon, and then the lights here along the north rim near the lodge. A magical time to be out and see the Milky Way.

Still working on my moon shots. This one is over the grand canyon. I want to see more detail in the moon but I struggle.

Zoomed in with the 24/105 lens for this view of the crater rim at Crater Lake with sunset light.

now comes the time of golden summer and it brings a lot of beautiful details out there

What’s up guys? Can’t believe I’m saying this but it looks like this year winter is avoiding Chicago! If you miss this here is one from a year ago. What do you think?

The oriental darter, or Anhinga melanogaster is a is a water bird of tropical South Asia and Southeast Asia. It has a long and slender neck with a straight, pointed bill and, like the cormorant, it hunts for fish while its body is submerged in water.

The feathers on its neck are short and hairy, which provides the beautiful rim light effect under right lighting conditions that you can see in this shot.
