The shepherds calender

The infant april joins the spring

And views its watery skye

As youngling linnet trys its wing

And fears at first to flye

With timid step she ventures on

And hardly dares to smile

The blossoms open one by one

And sunny hours beguile

The "Wehlener Sonnenuhr" ("Sonnenuhr" means "sundial") is a vineyard location on the Middle Moselle.

My photo location for this panorama of 5 vertical shots a' 22 mm is the banks of the Moselle on the opposite wine town Wehlen, a part of the city of Bernkastel-Kues.

The approximately 50 ha of vineyards are characterized by south-southwest orientation and 100% steep slope.

The "Wehlener Sonnenuhr" is one of the most famous Riesling vineyards in the world. The stony, medium base, gray slate gives the Rieslings a delicate and fresh acidity that perfectly balances the peach notes typical of the location.

The picture was taken on a relatively cool December day, while the sun "fought" with the valley fog.

This morning I drove early to a location that I had been thinking about as a good sunrise location for some time. You are in one of the most famous Riesling vineyards of the Moselle, the "Ürziger Würzgarten" and look downwards to the east.

Right are the winemakers villages Erden, Lösnich and Kinheim.

As so often, the sky only appeared in these colors for a very short time.

West Gate is a grade I listed stone archway that dates back to the 12th Century. Located at the junction of the High Street and Bowling Green Street in Warwick town centre, the structure was one of three gates through Warwick’s medieval town wall and supports St James Chapel which forms part of the Lord Leycester Hospital.

Flammkuchen "4 Käse", mit dünnem, knusprigem Boden. Lecker. Dazu ein kalter, trockener Riesling.

This morning in Piesport / Moselle with its world-famous vineyard "Piesporter Goldtröpfchen". The first class Riesling white wine of this location is, as far as I know, mainly exported to the USA and Japan.

The Fallen Elm

Een nature's dwellings far away from men,

The common heath, became the spoiler's prey;

The rabbit had not where to make his den

And labour's only cow was drove away.

*Moselle Valley in the morning sun*

On the most romantic part of the Moselle Valley, where the river curves between two hiking paradises - Eifel and Hunsrück - lies the old town of Cochem. Even the Romans sang the praises of this remarkable landscape. It is true - a few things have changed since then, but the attraction has remained because the past centuries - above all the Middle Ages - have left their marks here.

The magnificent Reichsburg, the big castle, situated on a precipitous rock high above the town, dominates the landscape. The many delicate pointed towers, battlements and oriels give the impression of a typical fairy tale castle, particularly as it is one of the few castles in Germany, which was rebuilt in its original style after its complete destruction. As impressive as the castle itself is the view of the Moselle Valley with its beautiful forests, meadows, fields and vineyards, as well as the old part of the town.

The town of Cochem itself is a sight worth seeing, not only because of its narrow streets and twisty alleys, the lovingly restored half timbered houses with the typical slate roofs, the historical market-place, but also because of its medieval town gates, churches and walls. The wine-growers and restaurant owners would also like to take the time to introduce you to the variety of their excellent Riesling wines.

You can enjoy another facet of the town walking along the Mosel promenade which is decorated with flowers and where many benches invite you to a quiet break. A further attraction is a river tour on one of the Moselle boats, either during the day or at night with music and dancing, when the lights of the castle and the town are reflected in the water. Have fun and relax in the only indoor swimming pool with artificial waves in this area. It is a wonderfully situated leisure centre between meadows and vine-yards and offers all the luxury of a modern swimming pool in fine and bad weather.

Rural Morning

While oer the distant fields more faintly creep

The murmuring bleatings of unfolding sheep,

And ploughman's callings that more hoarse proceed

Where industry still urges labour's speed,

Village on the 'südliche weinstrasse'.

The pfalz wine region is best known for his white wines. The region produces the best Riesling in the world.

Nevertheless we enjoyed the red wines. Dornfelder and spatburguder (pinot noir)...

Black and white.

In Clare Valley in South Australia. This disused raolway line has been upgraded as a 33km long cycle track that passes various vineyards and numerous cellar door wine tastings.

The legendary 170-km-long Alsace Wine Route passes through a string of picturesque villages, well-known wine-producing towns and exceptional landscapes.

Kleiner Turm im Weinberg bei Oberhausen, die Weinberge sind fast so steil wie an der Mosel und der Riesling schmeckt auch sehr gut.

Small tower in the vineyard near Oberhausen, the vineyards are almost as steep as on the Moselle and the Riesling also tastes very good.

The beautiful Hunawihr countryside situated on the Wine Route between Strasbourg and Colmar. This region is known for its excellent Riesling.
