is a source of the river Rhine in the Swiss canton of Graubünden. The river originates from the Länta Glacier and the Grauhorn Glacier at the northern foot of the Rheinwaldhorn and initially flows through the valley Länta before it flows into the Zervreilasee reservoir. Before the construction of the reservoir, the brooks Hornbach and Canalbach would flow into Valser Rhine from the right at the village of Zervreila. Today, the brooks flow into the reservoir, as does the Finsterbach, also from the right.

The Rhine Gorge, or «Ruinaulta» in Romansh, is one of the most magnificent and diverse landscapes in the Alps. Created about 10,000 years ago by a rockslide, the gorge walls reach heights of up to 300 metres. In its depths, the Upper Rhine winds its way for 14 kilometres. It is fed from Lake Toma at the Oberalp Pass, the Rhine's official source. From there it is exactly 1,233 kilometres to its outlet in the North Sea near Rotterdam in the Netherlands. As we travel by Viking ship up the middle Rhine River, there were vineyards everywhere.
It amazed me how they planted them on such steep hillsides. There are reasons for that. They say by planting on hillsides the grapes get just the right angle of sun to produce much better crops. The hillsides are also terraced, so the grape pickers can get to them easier.
The patchwork of different colors of vineyards really fascinated me!
I hope you all had a very nice Thanksgiving. As usual, I ate way to much! :-)
