Un fer de proue utile
A l’avant, la gondole porte un « fero di prova », un fer de proue qui s’élève en panache. Ce fer assez épais a une utilité précise. Son poids sert à contrebalancer le poids du rameur à l’arrière de l’embarcation.

La symbolique du fer de proue
Il existe toute une symbolique quant à la forme étrange de ce fer de proue que nous détaillons dans l’illustration ci-dessous.
Nous devons préciser que si c’est là l’interprétation communément admise, elle ne nous convainc pas entièrement.
Par exemple, concernant les 3 îles de Murano, Burano et Torcello. En effet, pourquoi celles-là ? Pourquoi pas le Lido di Venezia ? Pourquoi pas Sant’ Erasmo, le potager de Venise ?
Le fer est souvent l’orgueil du gondolier et parfois décoré ou poinçonné par son illustre fabricant.

It's nice when the butterflies rest in a location where you can actually see them. This lovely Polydamas picked a nice sunny spot to hang out for a few minutes. When I noticed him, I was able to go in the house, grab the camera and return for a couple of shots before he flew back into action.

A classic car resting beside the water, with tall reeds and a distant building peeking through the trees. A simple summer scene that made me stop for a moment
This song sparrow is resting in a redosier dogwood shrub. These wonderful bushes grow naturally in the wet barrens here at Chipera Prairie, but do just as well when planted in the front lawn for decorative purposes.

In English, this means, „In Jesus there is rest and peace.“
I am not religious in any way, but religious symbols often are a hell of a subject. 😈

These creatures are absolutely majestic. Those antlers jutting up like a wooden crown, the whole way they hold themselves... It's almost regal. You can tell, as he lays there, he knows he's in charge. I walked from nearly where that car in the background is to this new spot finding better framing opportunities, I wanted to actually capture this elk properly this time.
