The Compagnie des Autobus de Monaco (CAM) provides the Principality’s bus services, negotiating the enclave’s sinuous and hilly streets via six regular routes. A Renault PR100 bus was captured in action near the Port.

Former Renault PR100 demonstrator F100AKB is pictured at The Trolleybus Museum at Sandtoft on November 19th 2022.

In reality, this bus (which survives in preservation) has always been of single-door configuration. The Renault PR100 was a successful continental design that failed to seduce UK buyers. London Buses tried two in separate, successive evaluation periods. Both had 51-seat Northern Counties bodies, which incorporated the standard Renault front-end. F100 AKB worked within the East London division from 1989 to 1993, before joining the earlier demonstrator in the fleet of Hornsby of Scunthorpe. The PR100 was a successful French city bus, introduced by Berliet in1971 and sold as a Renault following the merging of Berliet into Renault Véhicules Industriels. Over 13,500 were produced in France (some of which were exported to Algeria and Morocco) and it was also built under licence in Poland, Spain and Australia, but failed to gain Renault the footholds that it was seeking in the US and UK markets. Only two right-hand drive examples were built, both fitted with Northern Counties bodies incorporating the standard Renault front-end. After separate and successive evaluation periods with London Buses, they both passed to Hornsby of Scunthorpe. The second (1989) example F100 AKB is now preserved in East London livery and I am grateful to David Little for the source image taken at a recent Lincoln running day. The Northern Counties body, and GMT's earlier experience with an NC-bodied Mercedes-Benz, prompted me to produce this fictional version in Greater Manchester Transport livery. In overall appearance it is not unlike the Northern Counties Paladin and Plaxton Verde, both of which featured the deep corner windows that were popular on contemporary continental designs (23-Jun-13).

Voici le PR100 MI de l'association ARTM de Marseille, il sert d'autobus musée comme navette pour emmener les quartiers défavorisés au MuCEM pour l'accès à la culture.

Il circule tout les dimanches depuis fin mai 2021.

On le voit ici aux abords du MuCEM avec la Cathédrale la Major en arrière plan.

Regular contributor Keith Lee sent me an interesting summary of the demonstration vehicles that North East Bus received from various manufacturers for extensive evaluation during 1993. This was several years after the Renault PR100 had been doing the rounds and it wasn't a type that was included in the aforementioned trials. However, there is a striking resemblance to the pair of Alexander Q-bodied Leyland Tigers acquired for the United fleet in 1990 (28-Jun-13).

This is the 'other' Renault PR100 that was was new in November 1989 as London Transport RN1.

As F100 AKB (or WUK 155 as it was very quickly re-registered to, in the Hornsby fleet), had been such a sucess, G276 VWL was acquired from Parfitts of Rhymney Bridge in April 1994, and lasted until April 2003, afterwhich it is beleived to have been scrapped.

It would have been working the 350 Hull - Scunthorpe service on a Sunday.

Telfords Renault PR100.2/Ansair ex m/o 8589, ex Action Canberra 778, in Mitchell Road at Wanda Beach 26/2/2013. Behind it can be seen the front and back of a Sydney Buses Scania L113TRB which had just pulled away from the curb and in the right background is Veolia Transport m/o 015 which had just been repainted into TNSW livery. TV 5294 sold to DAT Services (Aust) Pty Ltd (Hawkesford), Harris Park 9/9/13, reg TV 7817 in MJH Services Pty Ltd t/a Big Mummer fleet 8/8/14. Rego expired 7/5/20. Sold to Beachwheels Automotive Pty Ltd,

A specialised airport bus. Unusual to see a Renault in Britain. April 2001.
