TV Remote Control in the circles of Secular Jews seem ubiquitous as a Mezuzah for Orthodox Jews
Each Mezuzah contains the parchment of Hear O Israel... with the TV Remote Control Israel may Watch TV as well as Hear it.
RC pistol controler, build for the White Ice. It can be controle with 1 or 2 hands.
With the small stick on the back the steering can be controled by the thumb.
Controler is based on LegOscar's pistol controler.
As manufactured by the Best Company, San Leandro, California, around 1905. Some of these behemoths remain preserved, even operational. Best merged with the Holt Company (known for their tracked vehicles) in 1925, to become Caterpillar.
The Best traction engines are easyly recognized by their three-wheeled design and their upright boiler - the horizontal tank is a water container. Other than that, the design was pretty antiquated for its time, with no brakes, no gear shift, and a top speed of about 4mph.
The most prominent Best engine is "Old Dinah", purchased in 1894 for hauling borax through Death Valley. Today it can bee seen sitting at Furnace Creek, in a pretty desolate state.
Another preserved engine, the very one that inspired me to this build, is nicknamed "Susanpuffer" and can be seen in action here on youtube:

Remote sensing was performed, using magnetometers and radar to “see” below the ground’s surface – allowing Dr. King and her team to anticipate features that might be missed from shovel testing alone.
This is the infrared remote control I build for my nikon camera using parts that I had lying around (but I had to buy the IR Diode because I didnt have any broken remotes available).
I got the idea and source code from this page. Just had to port the code to the microcontroller I had available and did some minor improvements on the circuit for dynamic range selection (will solder the missing switch on the free space).
I am very happy with the result. It is just the first version, but it holds quite comfortable in the hand and has a range of around 4 meters using the maximum power mode.

When I saw Victor W.'s Do-it-yourself projects, I decided to try something myself. With a little (ok, with a lot) of help from Victor I built this radio remote for my EOS 450D. I knew that the plug that the original cable release has is an usual 2.5mm plug and that I would only need something that already uses wireless components to modify. I took a cheap wireless doorbell from eBay, disconnected the speaker, cut out the LED that indicates a signal and replaced it with an opto-trigger (MOC 3020), that closes the circuit of the cable from the camera, when the button of the remote is pressed.
Unlike Victor's projects, this is nothing that kills you, so if you want any details just ask, I will try to help best I can.
You can build you own cable release for about 2€ by the way, just buy a stereo cable with a 2.5mm plug and rip off the isolation. One of the wires connected to ground will make the camera focus and shoot, the other wire connected to ground will just focus, try it, it's really easy. If you look closely at the top photo, you see a thin wire with blue isolation next to a blank wire. Those two connected focuses and fires the camera. The other wire of the stereo cable has the same with red isolation, those two are for focusing only.
Oh, and.... total costs: 8€
Sorry guys..I couldn't find my remote yesterday...so this is the only thing I could think of doing without having to run back and forth and reset a timer. I took this without the lens attached. I held it just in front...I think it was suppose to create a tilt-shift effect but I don't see it. Anyways, Of to my church to work this morning. they hired me temporary (possible for full time late) to design posters, ads and such for them. should be fun! :) Gonna try to retrace my steps today and see if I can find the remote! :)
I went on a backpack last weekend to Campsite 44 in the Smokies. This is Big Pool, Raven Fork River, one of the harder to reach places in the Smokies. We walked off trail for 8 hours to get here and back to a trail. Well worth it.
All work and no sleep makes Akiko a tired Lass.
Then again...being on the road for 13-hours would make me tired, too (and...it did).
Remote Sensing for Hazard Mitigation and Resource Protection in Pacific Latin America:
This project focuses on developing remote sensing tools and validation methods for hazard mitigation and resource protection in Guatemala, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Ecuador, Panama and soon Costa Rica.
We are working towards two important goals:
(1) to develop a formal linkage among geoscience agencies in the four countries, focusing on the collaborative development of remote sensing tools for hazard mitigation and water resource development, and
(2) to build a new educational system of applied research and engineering, using two existing educational programs at Michigan Tech: a new Peace Corps/Master’s International program in Natural Hazards which features a 2-year field assignment, and an undergraduate Enterprise program, which gives teams of civil, environmental, and geological engineering students the opportunity to work on real-world problems over multiple years in a business-like setting.
Some people call it living out of a suitcase but most of the time I call it living out of an old fishing hut or wood cabin in the jungle or even a tent if I have the room to bring one. A few select clothes and 85% camera gear. I have dreamt of sharing this beautiful world and helping make it a better place for others too. Five stars for me is the bliss of such a sunset in remote beautiful places off the beaten track. Oh and you can come too if you really want to...
You put the velcro tape on the heavy side of the remote (i find that this works best)

Hahaha, a completely accidental photo that I ended up really liking. I think I may try some other things with me walking away from the camera, but I'm going to need a non infared remote..

Soldier provides medical care to local Afghans
Corporal Mike Gadway, a Medical Technician with Health Services unit (HSU) operating out of a remote forward installation in the Panjwa’i District, along with a Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC) qualified soldier provide medical care to local Afghans on November 10th 2010.
Operation ATHENA is Canada’s participation in the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in Afghanistan. Focused on Kandahar Province in southern Afghanistan since the fall of 2005, OP ATHENA has one over-arching objective: to leave Afghanistan to Afghans, in a country that is better governed, more peaceful, and more secure.

L’opération Athena constitue la participation du Canada à la Force internationale d’assistance à la sécurité (FIAS) en Afghanistan. Concentrée dans la province de Kandahar, dans le sud de l’Afghanistan, depuis l’automne 2005, l’opération Athena poursuit un objectif essentiel : laisser l’Afghanistan aux Afghans et en faire un pays mieux gouverné, plus paisible et plus sûr.
