Looks like a DIY remodel ...still in progress from the 70's.
Had fun capturing this - hope nothing attached itself to me while taking it.
A wall of a building known in recent years as the Design Center. Sometime before the 1980s, it had been Miller Brothers Auto dealership, one of many delearships along Baum Boulevard, now closed, torn down, or repurposed, like this one. The original remodel featured a bland and tacky faux facade. They've ripped it off and appear to be about to re-face it in brick. I like the transitional state best of all. I'm afraid the modern brick and windows that probably replaced the original showroom windows are going to stay.

Their fleece just naturally drops off, looks a bit untidy.

Guess nothing will ever stop the need to remodel. All the grass has been removed from a large area and new sod is being installed. Cleanup and maintenace is taking place at Houston National Cemetery. Surprisingly, there's vandalism that occurs here.
Any old chemical, paint, kitchen cooking residue, etc. will bleed through new plaster. It just is the nature of the mud to absorb everything it touches. It happens especially in kitchens. So we will be priming the entire ceiling and walls with Kilz before painting.
I flashed back to childhood the other day. Not sure what triggered it. I'm never sure. The neurons in my brain connect somehow like an old-fashioned telephone switchboard. And suddenly there I am, mentally teleported to some distant place in time. In this episode I'm about age 12 and my bedroom was being remodeled. Mom said I could choose whatever pattern I liked for the wallpaper. I recall searching through absurdly oversize books contains samples of all sort of wall coverings. They passed by in a blur until I spotted the perfect choice: a Batman motif. I told mom the search was over, this was my pick. She looked at it disapprovingly and tried to steer me to other selections, ones that did not include cartoon characters. But my choice was firm and the decision was final. Some weeks later the new wallpaper went up. It should surprise none that it did not feature the Caped Crusader. It was just some abstract floral pattern that looked just like the wallpaper elsewhere in the house. Mom knows best I guess. My brain circuits cut out at that point and I'm back in the present wondering where the hell that came from. And then I came across this photo from a series I did a couple of years ago. It was never published, then subsequently lost in my recent hard drive crash fiasco. But miraculously it just resurfaced in a group of recovered files. And immediately the connection was made. Just like the Batman wallpaper would have increased the awesomeness of my childhood bedroom, I was absolutely awestruck by the vines in this photo. Love how they snake their way up the wall and across the window panes. There's a drippy, creepy-crawly effect that enhances the look of abandonment. It elevates the dreary to a new plateau, more of a haunted house vibe. I remember staring up at the window at the time, thinking how I couldn't quite believe what I was seeing. Batman lives!

The contractors start in a week and a half, I'll post the progress.

The Cosgrove House
Le capitaine Phillip L.Cosgrove, père, commandait le mangrove américain, le premier navire de sauvetage pour venir en aide aux victimes de l'explosion de l'U.S.S. en 1898. Maine dans le port de La Havane. Cette maison, acquise par Cosgrove en 1871, comprend des vestiges de la résidence d'un étage du juge fédéral James Locke. Afin d'accommoder sa famille grandissante, Cosgrove a payé 1 600 $ pour agrandir la maison à 2 1/2 étages. Rénové dans le style néo-grec, il présente un toit à pignon avec des balustres en gabarit et des volutes décoratives au sommet des colonnes carrées. Des adaptations au climat de Key West ont également été incorporées, notamment une citerne sous le plancher avec du poisson pour aider à garder l'eau fraîche et à éloigner les moustiques. Captain Phillip L. Cosgrove, Sr., commanded the U.S. lighthouse tender Mangrove, the first rescue ship to aid victims of the 1898 explosion of the U.S.S. Maine in Havana harbor. This house, acquired by Cosgrove in 1871, incorporates remnants of federal judge James Locke's one-story residence. In order to accommodate his growing family, Cosgrove paid $1,600 to enlarge the house to 2 1/2-stories. Remodeled in the Greek Revival style, it features a gabled roof with jig-cut balusters and decorative scrolls at the tops of the square columns. Adaptations to the Key West climate were also incorporated, including a cistern under the floor with fish to help keep water fresh and keep out mosquitos. Cosgrove served in the Lighthouse Service until 1906, when his son, Phillip, Jr., took over his command. Three generations of the Cosgrove family occupied the house until 1947, when the house was acquired by William Gamble (1916-1976), a local jeweler and Key West city commissioner. Following Gamble's death, the house was converted in 1978 into a resort. The Cosgrove House reflects Key West's unique Conch architectural style, and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places as part of the Key West Historic District.

Construction keeps going on, the worker continues to perform certain inspection。The progress seems to be on track......。
Under construction for a remodel of surrounding grounds and internally. The visitors center is no longer there. Big changes during 2 years of remodel planned. (Image captured 7/14/18)

There is some clear evidence of the track having been replaced at this time and a flagman is visible to the side of the unit.
Given the position of the sun I would suggest this is around 4pm.
