Relocated was a three year (2001 – 2003) project based at Kensington public housing estate.
Photographer Angela Bailey and writer Angela Costi were based at the estate and worked with tenants and relocated tenants to document the redevelopment of this estate in physical, social and emotional terms and to acknowledge and celebrate the contribution made by tenants (past and present) to Kensington and to Melbourne generally.
This public housing estate was redeveloped into a new public/private housing development and 400 households (around 1000 people) were relocated temporarily or permanently from the estate to suburbs across Melbourne. Given the small size of Kensington (approximately 5000 people), this redevelopment signified a huge shift locally.
The project was a collaboration with the Tenants Union of Victoria, the Kensington Public Tenants Association, and the Office of Housing. Public outcomes of reLOCATED included an exhibition and public performance on the estate, an exhibition at Horti Hall Gallery in Carlton, and the publication of a book.

To protect the loggerhead turtle eggs from the elements and predators while they incubate the eggs are moved to a safer and protected location above high tide. We have to attend classes and be certified by the DNR (Department of Natural Resources) in order to be allowed to move the eggs.
Relocated this cute orb weaver from my washing line to the tip of a leaf of a port wine magnolia tree.
Monday's weather forecast was amazing; perfect walking weather. So I took the MX-5 out for a spin into the Vale of Ewyas for a fabulous walk in the Black Mountains.
A lovely 11 mile loop from Llanthony Priory - north along the Ffawyddog ridge, down to Capel-y-Ffin then up to Hatterrall Ridge and back south to Llanthony.
All under glorious blue skies and sunshine. Hot up high but still frosty and frozen in the shade, woodsmoke and mountain ponies, it made me feel like I was trekking in Nepal…..
Walk 4 in Kittiwake's excellent Walking in the Black Mountains. Plenty of signposts and waymarks and clear trails made for a straightforward route.

This is the memorial at the Manzanar Relocation Center in California, USA, where more than 10,000 people of Japanese descent were interned during WWII without due process. Many of them were US citizens, born in the US, who had never even been to Japan. A pilgrimage to the site every year in late April commemorates the "internment" in the hope that such a thing will never happen again.
Heart Mountain Relocation Center
More than 750 young men and women incarcerated during World War II at the Heart Mountain Relocation Center, despite being forced by the government to live in wooden barracks surrounded by barbed wire, left to serve their country in the U.S. Armed Forces. To recognize these citizens the camp's United Service Organizations (USO) sponsored the construction of a "servicemen's roll call panel" during the summer of 1944. It was placed at this location by the camp's engineering department and was in front of the administration building.
Unfortunately, the full list of names displayed on the original Honor Roll has not survived. We do know that the original list included all service men and women whose families were incarcerated at the camp, including those who were already in the service prior to the start of the Second World War. It also included servicemen and women from families who were transferred to Heart Mountain from other camps. Also listed were names of Caucasian employees of the Center who left to serve in the military.
Using the original criteria, this list has been recreated using the Heart Mountain Relocation Center census from the National Archives, as well as information from the camp newspaper, "The Heart Mountain Sentinel," and from family and friends of those formerly incarcerated here.
The replica Honor Roll and new Flag Pole were provided and installed by the Heart Mountain, Wyoming Foundation. Funding for these came solely from private donors, including Japanese Americans who were incarcerated at Heart Mountain, their descendants, and residents of the State of Wyoming. The list is as accurate as possible in 2002. Names can be added in the future if shown to belong on the Honor Roll.

We made conscious decisions not to do any "commercial" lights on this tour and were reminded why when we went to visit this one.
It's located in an "Acadian Village" filled with actors dressed in period costumes.
I'm not going to give you the name of the lighthouse or place it on the map as I wouldn't send anyone to pay to see a light that's not in it's original location or even in service.
It's in the parking lot for this "Acadian Village" that we saw the touring sedan so we managed to get our money's worth (with some photos) and confuse a couple of the actors when we went "off script". Frivolity ensued.
