The bronze statue that once stood atop the Pitt County Confederate Soldiers Monument is secured for transport as the sun begins to rise on Monday, June 22. Crews worked throughout the night to disassemble the monument while hampered by equipment issues; the remainder of the monument was removed on Tuesday evening. Work was performed at night to prevent interfering with traffic, court proceedings, and businesses in the Uptown area.
On Monday, June 15, the Pitt County Board of Commissioners voted to relocate the memorial due to threat of vandalism and concern for public safety after property damage occurred during rioting in the Uptown area two weeks earlier. Following the vote to relocate the monument, County Commissioners created a committee to select a new location for the statue, which has not been determined at this time.
The monument was formally dedicated in November 1914; various groups have called for its removal from the courthouse grounds since at least the 1990’s.

With Covid and having relocated further south in Kane County Illinois, our annual anniversary dinner trip to the Wilmot Stage Stop in Wilmot, Wisconsin was put on hold this year, Instead, we opted for Gene and Judes' in River Grove, IL. We started going there in after we were married 1974. When you were a newlywed without much money, you couldn't beat a hot dog and fries for a half dollar. That same hot dog now is $3.19 but still a bargain.

This photo has been taken as part of the scientific effort of the salvage archaeologist team H.U.N.E. to document the Sudanese Arab tribe of the Manasir and their cultural landscape 'Dar al-Manasir' situated at the Fourth Cararact of the River Nile.
The homeland of the Manasir will be submerged by the reservoir lake of the Hamdab High Dam (Merowe Multi-Purpose Hydro Project) in the very near future and all inhabitants have to be relocated by the Sudanese government.

The move ran smoothing where we arranged for personal belongings and furniture to be relocated and also prepared the offices for the company with organisation including a searing plan for 100+ staff, welfare facilities, signage and more.

Kanha was a bit of a dissapointment as there was heavy flooding, especially in the core zone, so noone was allowed in.
Normally we were supposed to have 3 game drives in the core zone. We did only one in the bufferzone, but the animals were very scarce. In the afternoon it was raining so heavily that we couldn't even go out and our second game drive was cancelled.
So the second day we cancelled our third game drive and visited a local village instead.
We would not have been allowed in the core zone anyway, and we feared the bufferzone would be just the same as the day before.
Several villages that were originally located in the national park have been relocated to a safer zone outside the dangerous area.
There are still people living in the bufferzone. They are actively encouraged to move further away but sometimes they've been living in the same village for generations and it's hard to convince people to move.
The day before we arrived a 16 year old girl had been killed by a tiger in the bufferzone.
The interior of this was interesting. It is a series of PVC pipes that are perforated. Coming out of the holes is what looks to be like stiff broom bristles. When the high pressure air pushed the contents from the toilet into this holding tank it would have vaporized any solids as the passed through and around these bristles. We found packets of chlorine under this tank, so I would assume that the chemical was added to keep the tank sanitary. When the tank was full a pumping hose could be inserted in the access port on the side of the caboose and the liquids would be removed.
Internet went down at the main office so we had to move to the Peel Money office. Also it's Baseline Rd.

This white rhino youngster and his mother are being relocated to a different reserve. Hluhluwe imfolozi National Park is the birthplace of the biggest rhino breeding program in the world.

Ichthyosaurus ("fish lizard") an extinct genus from the Early Jurassic.
Dinosaur Court
This series of sculpted dinosaurs and extinct mammals was commissioned in 1854 and unveiled in 1856. This was designed to accompany the Crystal Palace in its new home in Bromley.
The beasts were built by Benjamin Waterhouse Hawkins, and were the first of their kind. Hawkins was assisted with Sir Richard Owen providing some technical guidance on the dinosaurs.
The design of some of these dinosaurs are rather innacurate, but others are believed to be quite realistic.
Crystal Palace Park came from the Penge Place estate when, in 1854, the Crystal Palace was moved from Hyde Park (where it was set up in 1851 for The Great Exhibition).
The Crystal Palace was designed by Joseph Paxton, who also played a role in the relocation and designing the new site with its Italian gardens and terraces.
The area waned in the late c19th, and despite hosting the Festival of Empire in 1911, the managing company declared bankruptcy. In 1913 the Earl of Plymouth purchased it to save it, and a public supscription was raised to purchase it for the nation.
It was a naval training ground during the Great War, after which it was the first Imperial War Museum.
The 1920s saw a programme of restoration and rejuvenation, but 30 November 1936 an office fire broke out and the building burned down.
Since then the Park has hosted various events and partial development. Today it is primarily a public park.
