Alternative title: when you are too close to fit the reflection, focus on the bird ;-) Common ringed plovers breed mostly north of the Northern Sea and in Russia, with breeding sites ranging from North East Canada all the way to Russia’s far East. But some of these birds still nests on the southern shores of the Northern and the Baltic Seas. Unfortunately, this species is expected to lose a lot of breeding grounds due to global warming, with the RSPB estimating that about two thirds of the original breeding grounds will no longer provide a suitable habitat at the end of the 21st century. In Germany less than 1000 couples of this species are estimated to breed every year.

The young woman here is beautiful, and I love the reflection of the keyboard in her sunglasses ... but I gotta tell ya: the combination of grass and green-glow on the back of her laptop is out of this world. I have to admit that I used some color saturation to pump up the colors a little ... but not much. This photograph made itself: I just happened to be in the right place, at the right time, to point my camera in the right direction and push the shutter-button...

Being Grateful
Peter Prehn
Thanks for eyes,
Taking in the splendid tapestry,
Of our visual world.
For ears which resonate,
The endless reverie of sounds.
Thanks for earth, air, fire and water:
Their harmonizing, intermingling,
Sculpting, washing, blowing, burning.
Weaving our ever regenerating, living geode.
Thanks for the spirit of sacredness,
For entering my heart,
That I may behold life as a mystery,
I wish to enjoin.
Thanks for life itself,
Fragile, powerful surge of energy,
Material made spirit born to consciousness,
Brief soul light burning a maker's candles, organizing chaos.
Thanks for the feeling of Gratitude,
Reflection focused on the span
between suffering and joy,
Tribute to our vitality.
Thanks for listening ears,
Receptive to words of comfort and encouragement.
Thanks for the hugs of friends,
Who hold me close,
When feelings overwhelm me.
Thanks for the calmness in some people's hearts
even as we contemplate our vulnerability
on the brink of oblivion.
Thanks for the courage of some people,
Not to lose hope,
when reason is abandoned
in the world of nations.
Thanks for the feeling of hope.

Active Neutrality and the Duty of Nomad Monks in Times of Conflict by Daniel Arrhakis (2026)
Active Neutrality and the Duty of Nomadic Monks in Times of Conflict
A reflection on the ethics of non-violence, hospitality, and ecology in war scenarios
The Impact of Conflicts on Humanity and Nature
Wars and conflicts have always been the main causes of destruction, death, famine, poverty, and underdevelopment in the world. This impact affects not only humanity but also all of nature and the ecosystems that sustain it.
The Ethical Dilemma of Non-Violence and the Alleviation of Suffering
This reflection focuses on the ethical dilemma faced by various spiritual and philosophical lineages: the unwavering commitment to non-violence (ahimsa) versus the moral duty to alleviate suffering. In this context, nomadic monks assume a fundamental role.
The Role of Nomadic Monks: Ambassadors of Active Neutrality
By adopting a stance of active neutrality, nomadic monks become true ambassadors of this practice. Their refusal to participate in conflicts does not represent an escape from reality, but a way to preserve the purity of humanity, allowing them to intervene where politics and weapons fail.
The Three Pillars of Nomadic Monks' Conduct
Compassionate Neutrality
By not taking sides, they ensure that their help is universal. For a monk, a victim is a living being who suffers, regardless of flag, ideology, or religion. This stance allows compassion to transcend any border or division.
Ecology of War
The recognition that conflict destroys soil, water, and biodiversity is essential. The proposed ecological aid understands that the recovery of a people depends directly on the health of their ecosystem, making the monks' intervention innovative and comprehensive.
Duty of Hospitality
For nomadic monks, the door is always open, whether to war refugees or economic migrants. This challenges modern borders and focuses on human dignity as the only valid passport, promoting inclusion and acceptance.
Courage and Risks of Active Neutrality
This stance requires courage, as helping "the other side" or political refugees can turn monks into targets. It is about the practice of peace taken to its ultimate consequences, where the protection of ethical principles outweighs any fear of reprisal.
Refuge in Principles and Silence as an Ethical Attitude
In cases of persecution or imprisonment for helping someone, nomadic monks must take refuge in their principles and remain silent. Under no circumstances can they denounce those they have helped, keeping ethics above any external pressure.
Silence as a Political and Spiritual Act
In this context, silence is not merely the absence of sound, but a true political and spiritual act. By refusing to denounce, they break the cycle of retaliation and reaffirm that human dignity and the integrity of ecosystems are above any jurisdiction or ideological conflict. Thus, active neutrality reaches its limit: the body may be imprisoned, but the network of protection and principles remain inviolable.
The Monk as a Symbol of Peace
This stance transforms the nomadic monk into an unshakable point of peace in a world in flames, ensuring that his refuge is a truly sacred and safe territory for all who suffer.

viewed from Gaya-Bodhgaya road.
Motto: “Point on the map is submitting several levels of understanding - objective location, the coordinate, and the sight of context - that is, the feelings and atmosphere, the history of a place and the impression it produces. Regardless of everything, every action of a topographic registration raises walk around to the rank of almost scientific research and artistic gesture of deep reflection focused on the immediate environment. It is generally believed that we are blind to the visual chaos that surrounds us - it's worth a try to focus, and form it into own narrative by subjectively selected key”.
(Paper Beats Rock collective, “POINTS. Workshop on photographing places” - event description)
The landscape when I saw it from rickshaw looked like a personification of abandonment: exactly in the middle of nowhere. Later it was hard to find even the names of the mountains visible in distance. As if no one cared about giving names to landforms and putting them on maps.
However, it turned out that what is visible in the scene is actually not “heathlands” or idle land but a river bed (the river was temporary absent at that very moment). This river is very prominent and enjoys variety of names. It is called Phalgu or Falgu, when flows past Gaya, but before Bodh Gaya it is called Mohana and Lilanjani. In its further travel it again takes the name of Mohana, and divides into two branches which eventually flow into a branch of yet another river. In ancient scriptures, it is called the Nairañjanā.
-
The mountains located along the Falgu river are even more prominent and also bear multiple names. People say, Chinese pilgrim Hiuen Tsang (Xuanzang) has mentioned these hills in his travelogue.
The Dungeshwari Hills are most famous for the cave temples Dungeshwari caves (also called the Mahakala caves) where Lord Buddha is said to have practiced austerities for six years before descending to Bodh Gaya (that time called Uruvela) for his enlightenment.
Thus, Dungeshwari Hill, is also known as Pragbodhi (Prior to Enlightenment), the other name of the hill is Mora Hill. Oldham, archaeologist, whose survey of the area was quoted by the District Gazetteer refers to the central portion of the hill as 'Dhongra Hill'. Another descriptive reference I’ve spotted on wikimapia: “Mountain near Bandhua railway station.”
Shot atop of an iPad to create the ultra shine reflection, focusing on the very tips of the feather has created an interesting bokeh towards the tail.

From the Revd Dr William Olhausen:
Working out of the Church of Ireland Theological Institute, I am the national coordinator for Continuing Ministerial Education (CME). At the moment, there is an annual programme for ordained priests in their first three years of ministry. Along with everyone else, we have been hit hard by the coronavirus. This has meant missing our final day session with the Dean of St Patrick's Cathedral in Dublin, Dr William Morton, and our annual retreat in the beautiful setting of Mount St Anne's Retreat Centre in Co. Laois.
The CME team decided that it would be really good to at least attempt a final Zoom gathering to mark the end of the year. It proved to be a very successful and encouraging time together! Archbishop John McDowell joined with us to lead us in a Bible reading and reflection.
The Archbishop spoke on 2 Kings 4: 9. On seeing Elisha walk past, the wealthy Shunammite woman remarks to her husband: "Look, I am sure that this man who regularly passes our way is a holy man of God". The reflection focused on the place of holiness in Christian ministry. Even though we were meeting virtually, there was a real sense of fellowship and being ministered to by our new Archbishop. For me, it was particularly helpful to see holiness as something winsome, something pastoral and something grounded in God's love. I also appreciated the quite subtle point that holiness is not something we can obtain like a diet or a fitness plan but comes by spending time with God and allowing ourselves to be a channel for his love. Finally, I also appreciated the Archbishop's gentle challenge to speak truth to power as and when the Spirit compels us.
Once we had prayed together, we broke down into our pastoral support groups. This proved to be a great opportunity to catch up with each other's news, to learn from each other and also to offer encouragement to one another. Next year's programme may continue to be disrupted as we return to a 'new normal' but we will certainly be much more confident of being able to keep in touch and continue to learn and grow together in our discipleship.
Para Todas as crionças um magnifico dia! - Em pleno Feriadão fui assistir filmes. Tem coisa melhor? Para mim não! haha xD
Acabei de assistir os filmes:
X-men: Classe A e Água para Elefantes!

For All crionças a magnificent day! - In full weekend I was watching movies. What could be better? Not for me! haha xD
Just watched the films:
X-Men: Class A and Water for Elephants!
Both very good. The first, for those who know know it's pure science fiction filled with special effects! However the latter is more dramatic, sheds some light reflections focused on controversial issues involving how CIRCUS: The maltreatment of animals, poor working conditions and housing / food workers and so on. All this in the plot that revolves around a very good novel. It's worth watching the second! :) - I see some more tomorrow
