Well, sorta back. I was out doing some work in the garden this morning, and Stumpy was hanging out with me as usual. I was nearly done watering when I noticed she had hopped the fence and was standing on top of it with something in her mouth. Next thing I knew, I was looking at one of her beautiful blue-eyed babies! S/he (and the rest of the kittens) are pretty freaked out by me, but Stumpy and I are both trying to make them feel comfortable. Stumpy makes her soothing mama cat noises to the kitties and I have been speaking softly to them as well. It will take some time, but that's okay - I'm just glad they are safe and alive and seemingly very healthy.
She has gotten two of them over the fence, but they each found their way back to the other side. We rearranged the little kitty condos we made so that now it's more of a "ranch duplex" than a two-level deal. I do hope she gets all four of them to come over and stay over until we can get them vetted and adopted out. They're absolutely beautiful, bright-eyed, alert and curious. We are so happy.
