Today I was reading the CHDK project forum, and seena thread about someone trying to use a doorbell as a RC, then someone else saying they did the same with a RC car, so that inspired me to make this hack.
Basically, I had one of those very small, IR helicopters that got broken (which is something that will happen to them in a short time). I took the logic board out a long time ago, thinking that maybe I will need it for something in the future.
Well, the hack is simple: Removed the motors, connected a mini USB cable (red and black wires) to the main motor output, and voila, now I have a very small IR remote. I tested it indoors, it works from at least 10 meters away, and it will work even if you are in another room (it doesn't always work, I guess it is because my walls are white). I didn't have time to test it outside yet, but it should work well from a close distance.
To be able to use this hack as a RC control, you need to run CHDK on your camera, and run a remote capture script.
