Crepuscular rays, sometimes colloquially referred to as god rays, are sunbeams that originate when the Sun appears to be just above or below a layer of clouds, during the twilight period. Crepuscular rays are noticeable when the contrast between light and dark is most obvious. Crepuscular comes from the Latin word crepusculum, meaning "twilight". Crepuscular rays usually appear orange because the path through the atmosphere at dawn and dusk passes through up to 40 times as much air as rays from a high Sun at noon. Particles in the air scatter short-wavelength light (blue and green) through Rayleigh scattering much more strongly than longer-wavelength yellow and red light.
Crepuscular rays appear as divergent beams emanating from a distant source, in spite of the rays from the Sun being parallel when they arrive, because of perspective. The point from which the divergent rays appear to emerge from is really a vanishing point for parallel rays of sunlight.
Last rays hitting top of Mt Nandadevi illuminating the west peak, the east peak and peak Panwalidwar. Shot from Binsar hill.Made a bit contrasty in postprocessing for the peaks, keeping the dusk hue untouched.
It was a particularly harsh winter so far! Mid-February sun rays give me hope that spring will eventually come.

She would change everything, everything, just ask her
Caught in the in-between, a beautiful disaster
She just needs someone to take her home
We caught a moment around sunset tonight where the sun’s rays inverted from shining below the clouds to above them. It was spectacular!

This image was inspired by many people on Flickr. Lately I have been seeing the most amazing light ray images. I had to go back through a couple of years of photos to find this one but I knew I had it somewhere. This was taken in June of 2008.
Just wanted to say thanks to all my Flickr friends for sharing their images and keeping me inspired. I also, want to thank everyone for the visiting my stream and leaving all your nice comments.

The sunlit cumulus brought me out of the house first, but before I had time to set up a tripod or think about a shot, I noticed the elusive Anticrepuscular Rays rising in the E.South East over the top of the horizon. Lift camera, steady self, point... shoot. Do NOT faff about. They faded in a few seconds.
