West of Time: Fangorn Forest *
“Fantasy adventures rarely have an end. There is always someone to understand their foundations and continue the story” (A wise man)
__________
I have returned to the West of Time, where it all began, at the edge of Fangorn Forest.
Dark trees bearing magnificent white flowers stretched out their long branches, as if to mark, with a welcoming gesture, the passage to the depths of the forest. They might have been distant ancestors of our apple trees, but according to local history they belonged to the Ent civilization, the oldest in Middle-earth. These trees were believed to be endowed with a form of “consciousness” and a collective memory going back to the origins. They were said to be able to communicate with each other and with other species and even to act together in the common interest...
Suddenly, I was overwhelmed by a tide of persistent impressions: curiosity, extreme vigilance, the distant echo of shadowy areas, gaping wounds in the heart of the trees. Then, a steady rustle of leaves froze me in place with apprehension. And, in a way that I cannot explain, I understood the meaning: “Be careful while crossing the forest. Show us respect. And we will help you find the courage to face the mysteries and dangers you will face in the World. (Patrice the Hobbit)
____________
In the East of Time, modern Rationalism has relegated stories, tales, ancient legends including the writings of Tolkien and many other great authors, to the domains of the imagination, spirituality, pure magic, folklore and entertainment. As is, none of these writings had any resonance with useful knowledge drawn from human experience...
However, recent discoveries in neurobiology, plant biology and ecology applied to trees and forests tend to give a scientific basis to several old myths about them: trees are social and conscious entities, capable of learning, interacting and advancing. **
What the elders knew, but could not express in words, rather in metaphorical and poetic imagery, like Tolkien - now becomes a field of modern scientific research, peripheral indeed, but courageous and promising.

The timeless vintage charm of Cine Fox in Caorso, province of Piacenza, Italy
The Cine Fox was built in 1949 to a design by the architect. Pietro Berzolla as the first venue in the province specifically designed as a cinema.
The venue ceased all activity in 1980.
Since 2011, after a renovation, it has been used as a multipurpose room for shows, meetings, social, cultural and recreational activities
Stockholm's public library. The library has been described as the physical manifestation of a transitionary period in both the rationale of its designer and the shifting values of European architecture; the ultimate result a deceptively complex synthesis of styles presented in a visually straightforward package: the fading influence of Neoclassicism juxtaposed against the emergence of Rationalism. Brilliant!
In the forest alongside the little Liffey River in Tasmania - so different from its namesake in Dublin - the gentle flow of the water over this tessellated platform, catches the golden glow of sunlight. Birds can be heard singing in the trees. If you want a place to calm the soul, I can't think of many better than right here.
People who grew up in harmony with the land - people indigenous to it - speak of places like this as having spirit. The spirit of place is not just a catchy phrase, I believe it is the truth of our relationship to the world.
Modernity (and its intellectual motor of rationalism) is really a state of Forgetfulness. We forget because we can't forgive ourselves for losing the Garden of Eden (I'm speaking in the language of mythology here because it has a deep psychological truth). Modernity is a flight from everything that reminds us of this horrible detachment between "the world we have made" and Spirit.
So we spend our lives running from things. We run from God, from Spirit, from real emotions, from Nature itself. Occasionally in places like this we catch a glimpse of what life could have been like, but then we quickly remind ourselves that we are really rational beings and there is nothing at all here to see except material "reality".
But that's the fatal flaw in Materialism, because it cuts us off from the River of Life. Science can tell us approximately how old the world is, and even our universe. But it cannot measure Eternity or even tell us why we are here.
But dangle your feet in this cool water. Literally chill out. Turn off and tune in (and you don't need Timothy Leary's drugs for that). Tune in to the "vibrations" of Spirit. Find yourself in Nature again.
The Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona building is the work of North American artist Richard Meier. Designed in 1990 and built between 1991 and 1995, it was conceived as an assemblage of several prisms (with a base of 120 x 35 metres at its base, a height of 23 metres) and takes up 14,300 m2 of floor space in total.
The center is a cylindrical volume that cuts through all the floors – from the basement to the roof – and organises the exhibition areas along a longitudinal axis over three floors, starting with the ground floor.
Richard Meier’s architecture is fundamentally a formal reinterpretation of rationalism, with references to the masters of the modern movement, particularly Le Corbusier. The building is shaped by a combination of rectilinear and curved elements, a geometry that is softened by the external light that penetrates into the building through open galleries and large skylights.

Time to go for certainty? Go for the strong leader? Take refuge in the Buddha, throw myself into the arms of Christ, surrender my life to Allah, sign any other collective contract with the Divine? I prefer honest uncertainty. I will stick to my two traditions, Christianity and critical rationalism. The tensions and contradictions between the two are part of who I am. May be the tensions can be resolved, one day, when I am no longer.

The Eur is a district of Rome designed starting from 1935 to host the 1942 Universal Exposition in Rome (never held because of World War II). The design is the result of the work of numerous architects of the time technically coordinated by Marcello Piacentini. The EUR district was inspired by classical Roman urbanism enriched by elements of Italian rationalism, according to the fascist ideology of that time.

From the early 1950s Friedensreich Hundertwasser increasingly focused on architecture, advocating more just human and environmental friendly buildings. This began with manifestos, essays and demonstrations. For example, he read out his "Mouldiness Manifesto against Rationalism in Architecture" in 1958 on the occasion of an art and architectural event held at the Seckau Monastery. He rejected the straight line and the functional architecture.

10/27/20...Today, after having seen numerous posts on Instagram, condemning life in America, I gave thought to those posting...all Artists...all with intelligence or at least an education (I think)...and yet they have no concept of reality...the reality for the people they supposedly champion. For like me, they are living a life that others only dream of...all the creature comforts are there for us...and we have too much time to think...way too much time. So, with all my free time, I decided to research the word Intellectual...all the definitions I found were bullshat😉...probably crafted by intellectuals😂. The only things that matter are shelter, fire, water, air, food...and we have senselessly killed each other since the dawn of man.
I believe I have found the enemy 😉.
