A stunning looking species of damselfly that can be seen on the wing from May to September along slow flowing rivers and streams in the UK but rare in northern England and absent from Scotland. The female of this species can lay about 10 eggs per minute for up to 45 minutes and will often submerge her self when laying her eggs into a wide variety of emerging and floating plants. With an adult length off 45mm the Banded and Beautiful Demoiselle are the UK's largest species of Damselflies.

Great White Egret - Ardea Alba
The great egret is generally a very successful species with a large and expanding range, occurring worldwide in temperate and tropical habitats. It is ubiquitous across the Sun Belt of the United States and in the Neotropics. In North America, large numbers of great egrets were killed around the end of the 19th century so that their plumes could be used to decorate hats. Numbers have since recovered as a result of conservation measures. Its range has expanded as far north as southern Canada. However, in some parts of the southern United States, its numbers have declined due to habitat loss, particularly wetland degradation through drainage, grazing, clearing, burning, increased salinity, groundwater extraction and invasion by exotic plants. Nevertheless, the species adapts well to human habitation and can be readily seen near wetlands and bodies of water in urban and suburban areas.
The great egret is partially migratory, with northern hemisphere birds moving south from areas with colder winters. It is one of the species to which the Agreement on the Conservation of African-Eurasian Migratory Waterbirds (AEWA) applies.
In 1953, the great egret in flight was chosen as the symbol of the National Audubon Society, which was formed in part to prevent the killing of birds for their feathers.
On 22 May 2012, a pair of great egrets was announced to be nesting in the UK for the first time at the Shapwick Heath nature reserve in Somerset. The species is a rare visitor to the UK and Ben Aviss of the BBC stated that the news could mean the UK's first great egret colony is established. The following week, Kevin Anderson of Natural England confirmed a great egret chick had hatched, making it a new breeding bird record for the UK. In 2017, seven nests in Somerset fledged 17 young, and a second breeding site was announced at Holkham National Nature Reserve in Norfolk where a pair fledged three young.
In 2018, a pair of great egrets nested in Finland for the first time, raising four young in a grey heron colony in Porvoo.
When I was walking in the Bluebell woods they other week I came across this rare nest. It belongs to the Giant Yorkshire chicken a fearsome bird that lays eggs about two foot long.
Of course it could also be a piece of sculpture by local schoolchildren who use these woods as a nature resource

The Black Tern is a rare visitor for our way inland area. This is either a juvenile or non-breeding adult. They both look so much alike. Far shot taken at 7:23 p.m. with the setting sun at Peace Valley Park, New Britain PA.
This is a non-breeding adult Black Tern. It was an overcast morning on the lake. The birders with their scopes were having a hard time with the ID. So my pic was the deciding factor. Bucks County PA.
An incredible Snow Leopard with one ear trained on the photographer. This precious creature lives at the Rio Grande Zoo in Albuquerque, NM, USA. We all need to help save the big cats like the Snow Leopards. There are various different charities that are a good choice to donate through.
On a side note, I am going to try to include a YouTube link to some nice music with my images. Some songs will have something to do with the image and others may just be favorites. Thanks for stopping in.
Only for you see, I uploaded this photo (not very well focused) because this tiny rare orchid was inside a glass terrarium.
It is so delicate and the size of each flower is no more than 5 milimeters. A rare species found in the Atlantic Forest, particularly in the region between Rio and São Paulo.
Rare species are often much appreciated by orchid growers, despite of not been as beautiful as other species.

When I stopped admiring the source of the Rhine and looked behind me, I saw these protected Alpine beauties, the large (5 - 20cm) Alpine asters! Not just one, but a whole bunch. I had to climb higher on a steep slope, but I absolutely wanted a good shot of them.
we very rarely get snow on Vancouver Island.

I captured the spiral from the ground floor.
The architect designed another staircase to get from ground floor to second floor.
So there is the chance to photograph this staircase without interfering influences like a down coming spiral and railings.

Least Bittern looks as surprised as I was that she missed her target baitfish, but it does happen occasionally. On Horsepen Bayou.
The colorful Lewis’s woodpecker is a rare visitor to our area and It is a “life bird” for me…never seen one before! It was named after Meriwether Lewis who first saw the bird in 1805 while on his famous westward journey with William Clark. According to Cornell, it is a woodpecker in name, but it forages like a flycatcher and flies like a crow! Santa Margarita, CA

It was an unusual moment to spot this male Common Loon in full breeding plumage. This is a first for me. Normally when spotted they are out in the middle of a lake. Their colors and markings are truly amazing.
The rare sight for most are the salt field in the Run of Kutch in Gujrat. The white sea of salt with the embrace of blue, purple, pink, orange, yellow, the most beautiful colors of the sky are almost surreal. The human silhouettes at a distance and the round ball of fire adds life to the image!
