A couple of the Wrangell Range peaks rising majestically above Willow Lake.
Mt Drum (12,010 ft; 3,660 m) and Mt. Sanford (16,237 ft; 4,949 m) are both volcanoes, fortunately slumbering at this time. First time I drove thru here I could barely see the lake, with the heavy rains. Didn't know what I was missing. Sure glad I had a chance to see them on my return.

Short Eared Owl - Asio flammeus
Over much of its range, short-eared owls occurs with the similar-looking long-eared owl. At rest, the ear-tufts of long-eared owl serve to easily distinguish the two (although long-eared owls can sometimes hold its ear-tufts flat). The iris-colour differs: yellow in short-eared, and orange in long-eared, and the black surrounding the eyes is vertical on long-eared, and horizontal on short-eared. Overall the short-eared tends to be a paler, sandier bird than the long-eared.
The short-eared owl occurs on all continents except Antarctica and Australia; thus it has one of the most widespread distributions of any bird. A. flammeus breeds in Europe, Asia, North and South America, the Caribbean, Hawaii and the Galápagos Islands. It is partially migratory, moving south in winter from the northern parts of its range. The short-eared owl is known to relocate to areas of higher rodent populations. It will also wander nomadically in search of better food supplies during years when vole populations are low.
Hunting occurs mostly at night, but this owl is known to be diurnal and crepuscular as well. Its daylight hunting seems to coincide with the high-activity periods of voles, its preferred prey. It tends to fly only feet above the ground in open fields and grasslands until swooping down upon its prey feet-first. Several owls may hunt over the same open area. Its food consists mainly of rodents, especially voles, but it will eat other small mammals such as mice, ground squirrels, shrews, rats, bats, muskrats and moles. It will also occasionally predate smaller birds, especially when near sea-coasts and adjacent wetlands at which time they attack shorebirds, terns and small gulls and seabirds with semi-regularity. Avian prey is more infrequently preyed on inland and centers on passerines such as larks, icterids, starlings, tyrant flycatchers and pipits.
From the top, an impressive plateau, it is possible to contemplate the entire city of Rio and its surroundings – it is possible to see the Sugar Loaf, Christ the Redeemer, the beaches of Copacabana, Ipanema, São Conrado and Barra da Tijuca, and even the mountains of Serra of the Organs. It's an unforgettable sight!

This time I took the -3 exposure and lifted the shadows (normally I would merge 0 and -3 exposures in HDR program because LX7 has limited dynamic range). Very pleased with the detail in the foreground, which is almost black in the original. But even though it is -3 EV, some highlights are still blown.

I drove all the way from northeastern Washington state to the Snowy Range in southeastern Wyoming before I finally got out of the forest fire smoke. It was good to see clean air again....
Range : Alberta to Newfoundland, south to Florida, west to Texas ,north through the Dakotas to Alberta. Spotty in some of the western states.
Night blooming flower, Will start to open in the evening and close in the morning.
The roots of the first year plant are edible.
Yellow-footed Rock Wallaby seen in the Flinders Ranges South Australia.
"A large brightly-coloured and distinctively-marked rock-wallaby. Generally fawn-grey, white ventrally, with rich orange to bright yellow forearms, hind limbs and feet. Prominent dark mid-dorsal stripe from top of head to middle of back. Long ears and dark auxiliary patch. White stripes on cheeks, sides and hips.
Population numbers were drastically reduced following European settlement by a combination of factors such as habitat alteration by livestock, hunting for sport and the fur trade and predation by introduced predators."
Highlands there in Wyoming with nice late afternoon escaping through the clouds and over the new fallen snow that day.
One of several scenic ranges that make up the West Elk Mountains, the Ruby Range is the backdrop for some beautiful views of fall color. The aspen on the southern flanks of the range make up the most extensive stands in Colorado, only a portion of which are seen here from Beckwith Pass. The two prominent peaks are Ruby Peak and Mount Owen. The conifer forests here have escaped the outbreaks of spruce beetle that have killed numerous trees in surrounding mountain ranges.
This view of the canola fields and Stirling Range, near Amelup and Borden, also features the great tower windmill called The Lily.
A view of the Ruahine Ranges from our picnic spot last weekend - a little section that I thought demonstrated the rugged beauty of these, even a tiny bit of snow still hanging on in there!

Snapped this shot yesterday morning at the golf course with my Iphone. The sun had just come up as I reached the driving range, and the mist made for a beautiful sight.
I wish I had my Canon with me.
Churfürsten is a mountain range in the Canton of St. Gallen, Switzerland.
They form the natural boundary between the canton's Toggenburg and Sarganserland districts. They are the southernmost range of the Appenzell Alps, separated from the Glarus Alps by the Seez river and Walensee. They consist of a limestone ridge running east to west, with the individual peaks formed by erosion. The ridge is defined much more sharply to the south than to the north, with an almost vertical drop of several hundred meters towards Walenstadtberg and eventually Lake Walensee at 419 m. The southern slope of the range was significantly formed by the Rhine Glacier during the Würm glaciation.
The name is a plural, indicating the peaks forming the historical boundary of the bishopric of Chur.
It has historically also been folk-etymologized as Kurfürsten, i.e. the 7 prince-electors of the Holy Roman Empire who in the later medieval period (until 1648) numbered seven, which in turn encouraged the count of seven main or "official" peaks.

Little Blue Heron
The Little Blue Heron (Egretta caerulea) is a small heron. It breeds in the Gulf States of the US, through Central America and the Caribbean south to Peru and Uruguay. It is a resident breeder in most of its range, but some northern breeders migrate to the Southeastern US or beyond in winter. There is post-breeding dispersal to well north of the nesting range, as far as the Canada–US border.
