Another one of those opportunistic moments when I shoot blindly at something that caught my eye -- this is when your trust in your camera is put to the test. The Fuji never disappoints, by the way.
Space! Space! and a lotta space. Obsessional?

I walk the same streets. At the same time. With the same shoes. Breathing the same dirty air and drinking the same coffee at the same place. I shoot with the same camera, the same lens. And yet I never get the same picture. There is always something different - a gesture, the light, the pollution factor, the mood, someone will walk into the image at the crucial moment -- always something different, something new. Isn't that an adventure, isn't that exciting?
What indeed? A trollwho has a serious issue with laundry pegs and a liking for spray painting? Does he stop the boatmen going under the bridge and demands his fee to let the pass? Does he like billy goat gruffs? Who knows? Every bridge in London has its story - sad, happy, dramatic or mundane - and to walk on the bridge, or under it for that matter, is to feel the remnants of this story. Vestigia -- the magical residue left behind, that's what it is. And stones retain vestigia very well. Plenty of stone in London.
... and IT'S official: happiness really is contagious.

What if life broke you down..
What if you were the stone, shattered apart..
Enthralled by your visage, you may live the life now
But how will things be..
What if the unwelcomed blues just diffuses through..?

Let's Get Creative 2015 - Week #2 - Spherical
I'm so late with these! But I'll try to take this week to catch up with this fabulous challenge.
I hope you're all having lovely weeks, and that your days are filled with joy!
Unrest defines me as it describes the entire universe where nothing is constant other than the state of flux. This unrest flows through me as my wishes, dreams, thoughts, actions and opinions while leaving behind a pattern that is complicated enough to remain an enigma and yet beautiful enough to be called a soul. I rise, fall and disperse periodically just as distant stars. The urge to swell and shine is never ending; so is the resulting disintegration from failed endeavors to do so. The fluid that makes me the vagabond I am, also churns the undulating patterns of the cosmos that rein all physical laws. Lone I have always been, yet, lonely I cannot be. I am part of a bigger entity that refuses to grant me a constant identity because in each and every ripple of mine, I represent all that surrounds me. For, I am the totem… totem of the turbulent universe.
PS: Who knew, energy is an artist. I'll urge you to spare a minute and take a closer look at resonating patterns in play in this image.
....Go on, groan...

First of all, I'm on a bit of a saturated phase at the moment, bear with me.. Secondly, the APO Sonnar = Nikon 58G on some truly Bokehlicious crack!
\begin{rant}
I've always wondered about the hocus-pocus-y terms "pop" or "3-D" in a lens. I suppose these two are not quite independent as each other since there are a few mechanisms going on:
1. Micro-contrast
2. Ability to slice scene cleanly into "planes"
3. Field curvature and aberrations
I define micro-contrast as the contrast difference between two adjacent points of a certain small distance. So it is possible to have a high micro-contrast (i.e. image very sharp) and a low global contrast (i.e. uniform tonality). Similarly, point two replaces contrast with focus.
Having defined these two things, then I guess a lens designer would optimise these two properties with different profiles. E.g. a peak function profile (i.e. one that looks like _/\_) would be desirable I think, since you'd end up with an image with sharp transition between focus/oof and a sudden "contrast-vignetting" effect which would increase pop, perception of sharpness and a depth effect (3-d ness).
A Gaussian function profile (hill with round top) on the other hand, would produce a relatively smeared image (in terms of focus/oof transition and micro-contrast) but if the maximum height of the hill is larger through the addition of field curvature, then an even more pleasant image of supreme "pop" and "3d" can be found, sacrificing sharpness and introducing unwanted aberrations (these lenses are usually chromatic-aberrate-a-lots).
Whenceforth, I've a feeling that the Nikon 58G has a Gaussian profile with a large height aided by the strategic addition of severe field curvature whereas the APO Sonnar is a lens with a peak function profile for supreme sharpness and edgy focus/oof transition but with a smaller maximum height since there's practically no field curvature. As a result, it may be the case that a flat-field lens is easier to correct aberrations for (easier to line things/rays up maybe).
On the extremely expensive side, a Noctilux 50/0.95 (I've tried one in the shop but remain underwhelmed) is actually closer in rendering to the APO Sonnar but with some blur/aberration characteristics of the 58G, though not all.. It's why they charge ÂŁ8k for it I suppose. But to be honest, I'd be surprised if there's a world of difference if you compare it with a good copy of the 58G on a 16MP sensor like the Df. (Btw, the 58/1.4 is comparable to a 50/1.2 dof-wise I think.)
So, in the end, you've got to balance how much do you value the 58G kind of aberration-ridden-unsharp-but-incredible-depth pop vs the APO Sonnar kind of perfect-and-sharply-delineated kind of pop.
tl;dr - 58G if you want to pop like Andy Warhol on stilts on ice, APO Sonnar if you want to pop like a precision-fuelled optical diglett with a license to erm.. overkill?! ..nvm

Anyway, procrastination over, back to bubbles...
I secretly love catching the bus to work... it gives me the chance to listen to music, daydream and just watch the world go by. What made me wonder today is how you have these random thoughts.
Today I was listening to Death and all his friends by Coldplay, I imagined walking down Martin Place in slow motion!!!! The middle part of this song is just so uplifting and totally rockin'! Gives me the shivers and I feel so so so sorry for the person who seats next to me on the bus as they get to listen to it too!!! I just got the album a couple of days ago and have been listening to it over and over and over again.
What's some of your random thoughts today? Want to share?
Day 28 - April 28, 2010
I didn't take the photo of the T-shirts in this photo. This is a shot of a page I designed for the publication I work for, which explains the grainy feel. The story had nothing to do with photography and it was only after I took the photo that I realised, hey, my headline aptly conveys how I ought to approach the 365 project.
I have been losing steam since I returned from Japan and I think I need to just shoot whatever I want instead of stressing over what "perfect shot" to take every day.
Sunset shots are always popular. This is a classic setting of my neighborhood with the Lincoln Square archway and Germantown architecture in the background. This is a scene I see everyday when I walk home. Although, the sun is not always setting. I especially like how a glare is seen on the "U" in "Square."

Scientifically, there are claims that negative ions that are abundant in waterfalls somehow increase serotonin levels, which ultimately helps our mood. The mental health aspect comes from the relaxation-tendencies we’d tend to have from the simple act of watching the motion and sound of moving water.
