I photographed this so both the White-out Monster and the Art Institute lion would be both roaring.

This is for a blog post, "The best way to experience a museum exhibit"

The photo was taken on the last day of the "Awash in Color: French and Japanese Prints" exhibit. The reason for all the people is that there was a curator tour. So many people showed up for the curator tour, they had to split us up into two groups.

Walking around with a gallery tour is like being part of a giant organism. I should blog about that too. I have tips on how to navigate through a gallery tour.

2020 COVID-19 Stay Safe - Stay Home

Statistics don't lie. Despite what some some of the "fake news" sources are reporting-their IS a "virus" of some sort (COVID-19) that is killing thousands of people in a short amount of time> The factual and reputable news sources are telling us how quickly this "virus" spreads, and how we can protect ourselves and not get sick. These facts are reasons enough to take precaution.

BASIC FACTS:

Large group gatherings are unsafe.

Not wearing a mask is unsafe.

Not washing your hands for 20 seconds whenever you come inside is unsafe.

Not using hand sanitizer when you are out and about is unsafe.

Touching your face with unsanitized/clean hands is unsafe.

To stay safe and sane, I am processing pics from the boneyard as I stay at home to stay safe. Keeping my sanity until it is safe to move about again. {Random Thoughts 6.18.20}

23 of 365 | Hibernate Activate! – Sleep all day. That was Sunday. Right after the wedding we attended last Saturday, we had an after party for some coffee with good friends and their families at a coffee shop that we used to hang out when one of our offices was still located in the same building. Then after the after-party came the after-after-party where vodka, booze, snacks and continuation of the stories and random thoughts happened with the same set of good friends (minus the ones who had to go home since the kids were with them). It lasted long enough that we all went home early in the morning though some spent the rest of the time and stayed in the hotel we occupied. That did not end my day as I had to go home in Pampanga, so I travelled back. Got home, did my rituals and tucked myself to bed. I woke up for lunch then watched the TV for a couple of minutes then felt the need to take a nap. Little did I realize that the nap turned to a five-hour sleep. I woke up for dinner, took a shower, took this photo, and decided to process the pictures from the wedding and for this album. Unfortunately, as I tuned on the TV to relax before I start the plan to process, I fell asleep. Now talk about the body’s coping mechanism - when it gets tired, it rests.

I was shooting the pretty sunset clouds with my new Photojojo fisheye lens. The train started to turn just before the brown line Sedgwick stop. I thought it would be really cool to have the curvy, turning train in this curvey fisheye shot.

The faded diagonal paint on the construction wood drew me to this particular shot. The graffiti on the side was an additional plus. I have other shots that feature the graffiti more prominently, but this composition is about the treasure chest first, the graffiti second.

Inside this treasure chest is a note that says "What is your treasure?"

Read the original blog post from 2003 about this series. What is your treasure? Gallery 1. Then in 2011, I came up with a new idea for this series by showing the note inside the treasure chest when I take the photo.

After Barack Obama just won the 2008 presidential election, I walk down Michigan Avenue taking photos. After awhile I wanted to just enjoy the moment and not be in photo-taking mode.

There is a large crowed in front of the Art Institute of Chicago chanting and dancing. I hop up on the median and start hopping up and down and clapping with the crowd. One the chants we did was YES WE DID! YES WE DID! (a play on Obama's keyphrase, "yes we can"). We also sang OOOOOOOOOOBAMA! Obama. Obama. OOOOOOOOOOOBAMA! Obama. Obama." That was a fun one.

====================

Stay tuned, as I'm going to take of all my videos and do a compilation into one with some audio commentary. For now, you can check out photos on my blog.

This video is part of a blog post about significance of the happiness seen at Obama's rally in Chicago's Grant Park. (November 4, Barack Obama wins the 2008 election and will become the next president of the United States.)

As an African American living over 50 years in this country and former law enforcement officer, I can't pretend that this is not an issue that has existed more than I care to admit. What we are now seeing is only because camera phones and video capability on cell phones. As an Aunt to 4 nephews and countless other "play" nephews I can't begin to share how afraid I am for them when they are out and about. These same 4 nephews and "play" nephews are college graduates, college students, working full time and have never been in jail or in prison but yet have had more than a few "contacts" with male law enforcement officers with a dialogue I dare not share here. #TheStruggleIsReal

He has no idea what awaits for him in later years: mortgage, car payment, rising health premiums, car insurance, or having to break a $100 bill at a gas station and receive less than half back in change when you fill up your gas tank, I wish I could tell him, don't rush to get older, enjoy these days for as long as you can. Happy {Heavenly} Birthday Dad. photo taken 2018

As I look at this photo of us, These thoughts come to mind,

Daddy, you left me some very beautiful memories to remind me of how much you loved me and loved our family. I am reminding myself today especially to let that love and those memories be my guide today, tomorrow and always because you are no longer here. Although I cannot see you or physically touch you, I feel your presence and know that you are always by my side. {Random Thought 1.17.25)

Tonight at midnight EST your journey begins in which you will be even closer to joining our parents, our brother(s), your son and other family members as well as, loved ones that have gone before you. May your transition be peaceful and swift. I appreciate you reminding us that MD is with you and that you are ready and not afraid. I am not ready for you to leave me, but I do understand. I love you dearly my dear brother. Until we see each again, it's bye for now. {Random Thought 8.20.23)

My brother holding his great niece BLT, both napping as we look at them lovingly.

1. It's due to be around 40 degrees tomorrow. Blech! My snow!! My precious snow!!

2. Cinnamon Raisin Toast. Oh man. I've eaten half the loaf. I'm struggling with whether or not to leave it alone, or eat the other half too, to destroy the evidence that I am a shameless glutton who eats half a loaf of bread. Makes sense...right?

3. I am slowly gaining ground, and realizing (again) how much I enjoy sharing letters with friends. I truly enjoy it so much.

4..One of the dogs is dreaming next to me. Her hackles are raised, and I'm cracking up!

5. I habitually have too many irons in the fire, and while not physically beat, I am emotionally exhausted. Tonight is dedicated to tea and a movie.

6. Zombie fiction is a guilty pleasure of mine. The movie will be Shaun of the Dead.

7. There may also be more toast.

I hope you're all having a fantastic weekend!

We space-time warp over to the 3rd floor of the Lill Street Art Center. It's a nice big room with lots of space.

Walk-through of my setup:

1) Printout of everybody's generous helpful votes from the Facebook album.

2) Heat gun

3) Heating pan with bowl of melted wax set to 225°

4) Gesso'ed board (without wax, we'll get there!)

5) My toolbox with all my super encaustic supplies

6) Handy dandy aluminum foil roll

7) Paper towels

8) Rubbing spoon with folded paper towel

9) An board in progress (waxed with image applied) but I didn't rub off all the paper

10) Paper removal station with sponges and can of water

11) Printouts for the next print! They are standing at attention ready to be deployed.

12) Garbage can, cuz we don't throw things on the floor. We are artists, not barbarians!
