The locos are prepared for the days Santa Special duties

Berkeley Hills, Berkeley, CA

This maile Dark-eyed Junco, along with her female companion (shown in the previous picture), is busy finding worms and bugs for their brood. He stops at the cables as a staging area, making sure there are no other predators or dangers lurking nearby before returning to their nest. Every now and then, both parents seem to have left their nest unguarded, and are out and back with food at the same time. It's a lot of work to raise a family. They probably have a hungry brood to feed.

I'm excited at the ocean with my friends :)💖

The Raven:

Ravens are among the smartest of all birds, gaining a reputation for solving ever more complicated problems invented by ever more creative scientists.

The Raven is an acrobatic flier, often doing rolls and somersaults in the air. Young birds are fond of playing games with sticks, repeatedly dropping them, then diving to catch them in midair.

People around the world sense a certain kind of personality in ravens. Edgar Allan Poe clearly found them a little creepy. The captive ravens at the Tower of London are beloved and perhaps a little feared: legend has it that if they ever leave the tower, the British Empire will crumble.

Common Ravens can mimic the calls of other bird species. When raised in captivity, they can even imitate human words; one Common Raven raised from birth was taught to mimic the word “nevermore.”

The oldest known wild Common Raven was at least 22 years, 7 months old. It was banded and found again in Nova Scotia.

Still got tons of photos to share from the previous season, always too busy to edit them and, often, too busy for Flickr.

I try to catch all of your photos and comment them, hope I do not miss anything.

Best wishes, guys and girls!

When I am down, and, oh, my soul, so weary

When troubles come, and my heart burdened be

Then, I am still and wait here in the silence

Until you come and sit awhile with me

details from the interior of the dome of saint antonius in padua

The fortifications of the town were built after the Mongol Invasion. It had four gates, which opened to the south, west, north and northeast. The plain of the town slightly slopes north, so the southern gate, which was located on the highest point, was called Upper Gate, while the northeastern gate, which was located on the lowest point, was called Lower Gate. The walls were defended by wide moats.

The trade road coming from the central regions of Hungary left the town towards Poland through the Lower Gate. From the town gate a little wooden bridge led to a half-round barbican, which still stands, surrounded by moats. From the barbican a drawbridge led across the moat. After the fortifications of the town lost their significance, the wooden bridges over the moats were demolished and a new stone bridge was raised with two 5-metres wide arches in 1821. A similar stone bridge was built to connect the barbican with the town but it had only one arch.

Did you know that over 8 million tons of plastic flow into our ocean every year? By 2050 it is expected that there will be more plastic in the ocean than fish.

I've been thinking a lot about these stats recently and what I can do to raise awareness and give back - especially considering today is Earth Day.

So all sales from this weekend will be matched and donated to "Ocean Blue Project", a nonprofit committed to removing plastic from our ocean and beaches.
