A call to action: Second Life photo enthusiasts, bloggers or sim explorers are welcome to visit ARTSVILLE (in orange hues) and be part of the campaign by taking photos and sharing their experiences from the sim. In this way we can raise awareness of this meaningful cause by coloring our SL and Flickr worlds - ORANGE in 16 days.

The global theme for this year is “UNITE! Activism to end violence against women and girls”.

UN WOMEN LINK about the campaign.

Why having this campaign in our virtual world?

Let's face it! Gender-based abuse also exists virtually, it may be in an unintentional or intentional form. The extent of this violence may not be physical but will always result to short-term or long-term emotional trauma and anxiety to the member victims resulting to a violation of the Community of Standards (not TOS) of SL. Raising awareness in our SL community will give us reminders that one cannot just violate and do things according to their pleasure in-world with the expense of another person/ persons. It is time to at least put light into this issue by supporting us.

Looking forward to joining us! This will be an awareness campaign and participation are free!

I recently supported an important action with other Belgian personalities for the World Psoriasis Day to raise awareness about Psoriasis, a skin disease that affects some 20 million Europeans and 300.000 Belgians!

So we swam with Psoriasis patients to prove that it is not an infectious disease. Swimming together is possible and good for the skin too. (On the above photo: Sophie Nollevaux, Thomas Gunzig, Virginie Claes, Professor Carle P, Professor Myrto Trakatelli and Gwenaëlle Grovonius)

Earth hour 2018 on the 24th March 8:30-9:30

Celebrate the Earth!

I have the day off work today.... I'm sitting here editing some photos listening to my son, Josiah, in the other room - well I say listening but actually you can't help but hear him, he has some rather loud vocal tics at the moment.

It's constant.

He gets lots of headaches and gets a sore neck from his head flicking tics.

He asks me, "Mum, why was a born this way?" For which I have no real answer.

He has Tourette's Syndrome (TS). TS is neuorological brain disorder characterised by repetitive, stereotyped, involuntary movements and vocalisations called tics. It is one of the most misunderstood disorders. Media sensationalism is largely to blame for this. Coprolalia (swearing and cursing) is present in only about 10% of sufferers.

Josiah's TS presents itself in many ways - sniffing, blinking, grunting, nose scrunching, squealing, eye rolling, screaming, head flicking, hand and arm flicking, flapping and waving, knuckle cracking, and some more complex series of movements... He is a great kid and I love him to bits.

Jack was able to grow a very nice little mustache for this year's Movember.

Movember is an annual event involving the growing of mustaches during the month of November to raise awareness of men's health issues, such as prostate cancer, testicular cancer and men's suicide . The Movember Foundation runs the Movember charity event, housed at www.Movember.com. The goal of Movember is to "change the face of men's health." @Movember #Movember

By encouraging men (whom the charity refers to as "Mo Bros") to get involved, Movember aims to increase early cancer detection, diagnosis, and effective treatments, and ultimately reduce the number of preventable deaths. Besides annual check-ups, the Movember Foundation encourages men to be aware of family history of cancer and to adopt a healthier lifestyle.

Since 2004, the Movember Foundation charity has run Movember events to raise awareness and funds for men's health issues, such as prostate cancer and depression, in Australia and New Zealand . In 2007, events were launched in Ireland, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, El Salvador, Spain, the United Kingdom, Israel, South Africa, Taiwan and the United States. As of 2011, Canadians were the largest contributors to the Movember charities of any nation. In 2010, Movember merged with the testicular cancer event Tacheback.

In 2012, the Global Journal listed Movember as one of the world's top 100 NGOs (non-government organization).

Remember guys your health is important, It doesn't mean you are any less of a man if you have pain or whatever to go see a health care provider. Get an annual check-up. Your body, boyfriend, girlfriend, partner, husband, wife, parent will thank you!

Emma was diagnosed with cutaneous mast cell disease at 3 months old. Less than 100,000 people in the US have it. She is effected by extreme hot &cold. She can't play outside when it is too hot during the summer or in he snow in the winter . It's hard watching other kids when she can't do the same. She has been through a bone marrow biopsy to rule out systemic mastocytosis which can occur if she does not grow out of it when she hits puberty. Emma is now a 7 yr old beautiful girl who has adjusted well to her condition ❤️ #raiseawareness
