I'm a native Pennsylvanian, which means I am steeped in US History, whether I want to be or not. As a teen, admittedly, I had little appreciation for growing up in a place that seemed so entirely focused on the past. It was all I could do to join the Navy and see the world of today and tomorrow.
As I get older, I look back and wish I had appreciated the education about our past a bit more. When my parents were still alive, I visited PA as often as my hectic schedule would allow and, from time to time, took my family to places like this, where they could hopefully get an appreciation for the nostalgia that I was so quick to shun.
This is late autumn in Strasburg, Pennsylvania at the historic railroad where people get an opportunity to ride on passenger trains pulled by true steam engines like this one.

Die "Van Gogh" 189 206 ist mit einem ECCO Rail Zug vom Münchner Flughafen hier bei Dietfurt kurz vor Treuchtlingen auf dem Weg nach Mainz.
CSX Waycross, GA - to - Fernandina Beach, FL local train A772 rolls east through Yulee, FL on 14 May 1994. The eclectic mix of former Chessie and Seaboard Coast Line power was common at this time but didn't last much longer after this shot was taken.
This former SAL line is now operated by the First Coast Railroad, a G&W clone.
It was a very short, but brilliant, color season in northern New Hampshire this year. Everything went from blah to spectacular in a few days.
Luckily, camera with telephoto was ready when I crested the public bridge that leads to the Four Corners Generating Station...although as I'm now discovering, this shot really breaks no new ground on this operation.
The Navajo Mine Railroad unit coal train, lead by E60C "LOE 33," approaches the generating station after a visit to the Navajo Coal Mine.
Out of view on the other end of the train is ALCo C425 "control cab" LOD-7.
Mit einem Güterzug nach Linz konnte ich ein 1142 Tandem auf der Pyhrnbach ablichten - 1142 595 und 1142 698 bei St. Pankraz.
Na Railtraxx volgde een lege kolentrein van RBH, net als 10 dagen eerder getrokken door een blauwe en rode 151. De 151 127 en 004 passeren op 11 april 2016 bij Wellmich de 3 fotografen, onderweg met trein 60289 uit Großkrotzenburg naar Oberhausen West.
Einen schönen Mischer zieht die bis Sommer 2016 aktive 140 637 am 10.10.2015 durch Lindhorst in richtung Osnabrück Rbf. Die letzten aktiven Loks der Baureihe 139/140 wurden seit April 2016 nach und nach von frei gewordenen 143er ersetzt. Daher war es der letzte Herbst für u.a. 140 637...
Hin und wieder trifft man vor DB Containerzügen und DB KLV Zügen einen neuen Vectron an. So war es auch bei diesem Containerzug, den 193 329 gerade durch Hagenacker in Richtung Ingolstadt zog.
