This is an external-SCSI RAID array. Adjile trays with Infortrend controllers, provided by Media Integrations. This is might well be 18G drives, and if memory serves, the array, minus hot spares, and RAID5 parity, came out to just over 200GB. That being six years ago, this is obviously vintage. Just today, I brought up an inexpensive system with four 500G drives, which even in a RAID10 configuration, gives me over 900GB . . . wow.
The server I dubbed "macdaddy" since its primary mission was to serve the disk capacity to the Mac-based Audio team. (One of the challenges back then was to provide sufficient storage infrastructure for audio data!)
