Questo nome, che si può tradurre con 'il destino finale degli dei' , indica una serie di eventi tra cui la battaglia finale tra le potenze della luce e quelle delle tenebre e il caos, fino alla fine di tutto il creato. Ma indica anche la rigenerazione del mondo distrutto, caratterizzato da un'età felice e da una nuova dinastia divina e una nuova progenie umana.
È riportato dall'Edda poetica, una serie di carmi del XIII sec, preceduti da fonti di tradizione germanica.. Corrisponde al tedesco Götterdämmerung, canto finale dell'anello del Nibelungo di Richard Wagner.
Quest'opera del musicista tedesco è stato il primo argomento della mia tesi (che non c'entrava nulla con la mia laurea, ero solo appassionata di musica e di storia della musica). Dopo averci lavorato per circa quattro mesi avevo lasciato perdere e cambiato argomento : allora non esisteva internet ed era molto difficile reperire in Italia notizie sulle antiche saghe germaniche.
Però questa foto non è l'inizio del crepuscolo degli dei : mi ero solo affacciata al balcone stamattina. E la fantasia ha fatto il resto. Ora c'è il sole

The boat is tied up at the dock
Waiting, steady as a rock
It's sail unfurled, gently waving
as if a voyage it was craving
The hero comes, born by his clan
For this is not a lowly man
He lies upon a wooden bier
but no-one there will shed a tear
His eyes are closed, his arms are crossed
His last great battle he has lost
But this is no time for grief and tears
for it is Odin's horn he hears
His body's placed upon the deck
ready for his final trek
Pitch is poured upon the boat
This is the last time it will float
A burning brand is thrown onboard
Black smoke billowed, red flames roared
The boat drifts out into the fjord
taking him to his reward
Fire consumes the dragon craft
fanned on by a frigid draught
Until at last it sinks below
and icy water swamps the glow
But hidden from all mortal eyes
a ghost ship leaves the fjord and flies
Carrying this man of valour
to his reward in famed Valhalla
The ghost ship moors up by a ridge
The hero sees the rainbow bridge
He strides across the bridge, "Bifröst"
to meet with Asgard's immortal host
Odin stands inside the door
Flanked by Frejya and by Thor
A man no more, immortal now
With horn of ale he swears a vow
"With my gods I'll stand and fight
when comes the time of their twilight
let the Ice Giants come, we will mock
them, when they come forth at Ragnarok"

Twisted are the creations of Loki, cogs and metal wreathed to act like living flesh...
My upload schedule seems to ever worsen. This was mostly inspired by some concept art of seas serpents, which I decided to make with a mechanical twist. How the whole thing became flying, even I don't know!
Expect a couple more pics of other creations soonish, I've been working on a couple projects at the same time...

In Norse mythology, Lif (Líf) and Lifthrasir (Lífþrasir) are the two humans who survive Ragnarök, the end of the world.
When the gods perish, the sun darkens and the earth sinks into the sea, they hide within Hoddmímir’s Holt – a sacred grove, often understood as part of the World Tree Yggdrasil.
After the flames have faded, they emerge into a new world. They live on dew and morning light, and from them the next generation of humankind is born.
