A break from The Lovely Bones, and time for a screencap from Shutter Island.
Since I discovered my new quicktime techniques this morning, I've finally uploaded this screencap from the neweset trailer for the film; I've been wanting to upload this shot for a while now.
This film is going to be so much like a noir film in it's lighting approach and it's shown here. There's the classic Richardson lighting in the center of the room with the main light shining down. It's cool because the main light is probably coming through the vent in the ceiling, so it can be disguised. Richardson has lights shooting through the windows too which produces a very soft light on the walls.
The cool thing about the lights on the ceiling is that they are all on, but Richardson must have rigged up something where they only shine from the top, as they produce the patterned lighting above.
I'll upload another screencap from this trailer that has more noir lighting.

9/24/2010: Image and color profile G2.3 of an encoded H.264 mp4 file generated by Expression Encoder 4 Pro. The image appears pale and washed out compared to the source video and VC-1 wmv file. Note the elevated Y-waveform (luminance) and RGB color profile compared to the source and VC-1 wav files (see images G2-1 and G2-2). Also, the vectorscope chart (upper right) shows that the mp4 image depicts a narrower range of color hue.

Another Sunday, another screengrab! It's been forever since I've posted the last one.
Anyways, this is part of a Quicktime segment of some new animation I've been doing for the show - The GAMES DAY Podcast, our new Podcast about video games, gaming, and nachos!
All of the animation was drawn by hand in Flash using a Wacom tablet (the circle in this image was done in Illustrator), an experience that's been a little frustrating, but mostly lots of fun!
I'm also speaking at the London Fringe Festival on Tuesday at noon at The Spriet Theatre at The Market, if you want to come and hear my talk about how theatres can use the Internet for good and not evil.

Some video info: Taken with my Leica D-LUX 3 & edited in Quicktime.
I had two goals with this project:
1. That the flash drive's retractable function would remain.
2. That the car still would be able to roll
And luckily I reached both those goals. Sure, it doesn't roll that great, but it didn't do that from the start anyways…
The toy car is modeled (quite poorly) on a late 1970's Pontiac Firebird. No information on who the maker is, but I would guess it's one of those that you'll find at a convenience store, often in a set of several cars. Thankfully with a toy car of this bad quality it sure was easy to modify.
The only regrets I have are that I should have put in a 2GB flash drive (has a 8GB instead) due to the big #2 on the roof. And that it's a bit too wide, so you have to unplug things around the USB port to connect it.

This photo and "elk_island_2" are the exact same images. I cropped them and then rejoined them at different points. The "hill" from the previous image is now reconfigured and appears as two hills; a portico to the field in the distance.
