QUICK CURL BARBIE in mix n match outfit (from France)

Light blue shorts with red belt and pursue. Light blue fabric is different from the one I usually see for the italian edition of this set.

White top was also sold as a mix n match but could find only just a pic of it. Scroll to see.

Does anyone have any information about mix n match outfits sold in France?

PERSONAL FUN FACT: My sister knew that this outfit was Quick Curl Barbie's when we first found it in the "Ken Suitcase lot" of 2016. I at the time was confusing it as a Busy Barbie/friend outfit. I should have known better considering I own several Busy Barbie/friend items, and another Quick Curl Barbie dress (that came with Kelley). This outfit was pretty grubby when I first found it. Even after a bath, it still doesn't look as bright and fresh as it did back in the day. You can see that it has a slight black stain by the waist line of the dress. But considering it has sheer sleeves, this outfit is very structurally sound still. I really love these Quick Curl outfits--the gingham print used for them is very distinctive and super adorable! Plus the black bow accents make this dress that much more sweet! I love how classy this dress makes any doll that wears it look!

PERSONAL FUN FACT: These girls are sort of a set of twins! I got them together, and I just so happened to have a dress for each of them too!!! I did recall having at least one of these, but over the years I had hoarded a second one too. My sister thought that they could be Quick Curl Barbies when we first met the duo. They were part of the ginormous "Mountains of Monsters Lot," which we received in March of 2023. This lot contained 166 dollies, which were so generously sent to us as a gift. I was floored by the magnitude of the dolls included. It was especially a surprise to see a cluster of older Barbies from the 60s/70s. The gal on the left of this photo (with the necklace) seemingly fared better. She was still on her original body. Her twin was not so fortunate. The doll on the right side of this photo was a loose head, rolling all around the bottom of the box. There was a selection of decapitated heads, but not bodies to go around. I was concerned as to whether or not I'd have something appropriate for this lady stashed away in my "morgue" of spare body parts (it sounds morbid, but it's helpful having extra bodies). Luckily for her, I had this walking body from the 70s which is the perfect skin tone. Sure, I didn't "need" to bother with the second doll since the other one had a body. But I always save heads if they are salvageable. This gal didn't have a haircut, and her face paint was impeccable. The doll who had her body was actually almost as unlucky though. Her legs have a tendency to fall off, since the ABS plastic reacts with the rubber legs. This causes a melting type deformity, which misshaped the hip area over time. I was able to combat this by soaking her hips/legs in boiling water for a few minutes, placing an elastic band around them, and letting her cool down completely before removing the elastic. Both dollies also required some extra hair help. This old fiber doesn't clean up that well from a boil wash alone. I experimentally flat ironed their hair (usually the "curling" hair fibers are too sensitive to be straightened). Since the curling feature is created by the wires that are rooted in their heads, I figured it would be relatively safe to flat iron them. I was able to give them sleek tresses this way. I'm very pleased with how these adorable creatures look today. They both needed a little extra TLC, but it's so satisfying knowing they got a second lease on life!

Take a black and white photograph for 5 days. Don't forget to nominate one or more of your friends per photograph!

I have photographed this doll quite a lot I think she is one of my most photogenic dolls.

I am sure this image speaks for itself. I love diversity! Unfortunately the Barbie dolls in Australia are predominantly caucasian. I wish we got more of the AA versions of Barbie AND I wish that they would make an Indigenous Australian Barbie next time they decide to make an Australian themed doll.

Thank you ♥♦ Psycho ♠♣ for the nomination.

Today I nominate barbiecollector2012- Samanta.

PERSONAL FUN FACT: I'm almost 100% sure that this dress came from the "1970s Barbie bin" of 2012. It was one of the outfits that was not entirely trashed from that lot, which is why it stands out in my memory. I just absolutely adore the simplicity of this ensemble--I mean the way it was cut is truly flawless. I think my Malibu P.J. doll totally rocks this outfit. The color teal suits her ultra tan complexion, and I can't get enough of the neckline!!! Considering that this outfit is from the 1970s, I would say that it's quality is more like the clothes from the 1980s. It's very thick and sturdy, and I like that it has snap closures instead of velcro. Many clothes from the 1970s seem to be made from lower quality fabrics, particularly ones that bleed or fade super fast. Not to mention that they also have a tendency to fray uncontrollably. Even if this dress got holes in it, or tore, it would be easy to repair, and the repairs would probably be undetectable.

As for the shawl, I got it seven years later, during the spring of 2019. It was in a baggie we purchased at the local flea market for $1. The reason we initially bought the bag was for the Marie Osmond dress inside. I had a hunch that some of the other items could potentially be from the 1970s as well. When Colleen and I first came upon this shawl, we both had a nagging suspicion that it was special. The Quick Curl line ironically came to my mind. But for some reason, I did not investigate this further. Luckily, someone spotted this shawl when we were going through the bag in a video, and formally identified it for us. It honestly doesn't really look like doll clothing--it reminds me more of fringe on the edge of an area rug. I'm so glad we were able to reunite this shawl with the dress though. It definitely makes the outfit feel a bit more complete!

***My doll is wearing 1979 Wedding Party Fashions #1419.

PERSONAL FUN FACT written by my sister: In 2011, shortly after we began doll collecting again, we went to an indoor flea market that we frequented many years earlier when we were kids. I saw this girl, Sun Gold Malibu Skipper, and Teen Fun Workout Teen Skipper. Shelly and I recognized Quick Curl and Sun Gold Malibu as "old Skippers" so I decided to buy them. I was definitely most interested in the Workout Teen because I love the first wave of Skippers on the 1987 body. I sort of liked Sun Gold Malibu right away because I'd fallen head over heels for Great Shape Skipper and because, while battered, she still had her original outfit (also battered). This doll, well,...I was only buying her because I felt like I should as a Skipper collector. I secretly found her ugly and repellent. That night, we were washing the Skippers and Shelly's Mrs. Heart in my bathroom sink. The moment Shelly put Skipper in the water, years of dirt started flaking off, revealing her to be pale and PERFECT. I could not believe what a gem, a diamond in the rough, this doll was. Ever since I got this doll, I've become more open-minded to older dolls that I didn't grow up with, and I've learned to see that there is more to a doll than meets the eye! She really changed my attitude toward doll collecting and made me see how worthwhile washing a grubby doll is. Although she doesn't remind me of KidKore Katie the way the early 80s dolls do, I have grown to find her adorable. She is what really drove me to want Skippers from the 70s--she made 70s Skipper a familiar and special face. Mostly, she made me realize that, as a doll collector, I should look for the beauty in anybody--she's one of my very favorite dolls, who'd have thought?

PERSONAL FUN FACT: Where oh where did this dress come from?!! I can't recall if it was part of the "70s Bin" of 2012, or perhaps something Colleen and I bought separately from "Dollar Lady" at the local flea market circa 2012/2013. Either way, I've had this ensemble for a long time. It's been worn by a variety of my dolls--I believe my Ballerina Cara even had it on at one point. The green color looked wonderful with her dark skin! Despite having acquired several Quick Curl items over the years, it seems that the dolls always evade us. Colleen has just Skipper, as I'm typing this "fun fact." Ironically, Skipper does not have her outfit. This is the sort of ensemble I would have adored as a kid. The gingham green print and vintage styling make this dress unique. Admittedly it is a tad more sophisticated then the kind of dress I usually opted to put my dolls in, but I would have definitely used it! It's probably for the best that I acquired this garment as an adult, or the sheer sleeves surely would have been destroyed by my child self!

Quick curl Barbie in GUAG #9151 (1976) Summer's Dress in Ruffles & Mint!

She was a cheaper option to the TNT Barbie. She has the old Barbie body, without bendable legs. And she has no eyelashes. Her body is pink instead of a flat peach color like the old early 60s barbies.

Mi stavo dimenticando di fare una foto a questa bella coppietta, prima di mettere alla povera quick curl un vestito un pò più carino di questo ^___^''''

Outfit made by hand by Imelda Antonicelli

This Barbie outfit has been inspired by the original one in the picture below. It has been used in the musical " 8 1/2 " a remake of the famous movie by Federico fellini, one of the most important italian movie directors we have ever had.

My new year's resolution was to not buy any more TLC dolls until I finished at least 5 of my projects.

That lasted about 2 weeks. **sigh** Quick Curl Barbie...excellent shape but can the hair be saved or just go for a reroot?

Hard to tell if she just has a cut or if it's a knot just yet. But it is looking thin on the scalp. Perhaps from being brushed too hard?
