I stumbled into an article written by a Chinese scholar who has been living in America for forty years - it was in Chinese and this is essentially a machine translation :
I mentioned in my last article that Britain had dominated the world earlier than the United States by 100 years. But Britain has now outlived her ultimate prosperity being stagnant overall but nonetheless wealthy. On the other hand, the way United States took over the world's hegemony was more abrupt, and it's decline is so much faster. In terms of major social, political, and economic indicators, the degree of zombification and decay in US has left the United Kingdom way behind.
What I mean by zombification is particularly relevant in terms of vertical mobility as far as the whole economy is concerned. The chance of the children from the lower class getting into the middle class, with the middle class students merging with the elites are so slim. By elites, I am not referring to the cultural elites, either scholarly or ideologically, but the oligarchs who dominate and monopolize all the economic achievements, what the Americans call the "top 1% ". Ever since the late stage of Cold War, American society, which originally exemplify high vertical mobility, geared into a reversal. After the Cold War, this process continued to accelerate. Today, the United States is stuck with the lowest social mobility among the the advanced countries. To make things worse, not only is there a wide and deep divergence dividing the classes up, actually not only is the lower class but even the middle class are also being ransacked systemically, so that the gap is getting wider and wider. Say for instance, the median income as a whole in US has become basically stagnant for the past 30 years. And more than 90% of the economic growth in the period went into the pocket of the top 1%. Such phenomena also happened in the United Kingdom, but only to a lesser extent by far.
I have been saying for the last few years that such a change started in early 1970s when the American oligarchs pushed back against President Johnson ’s “Great Society" policies. Actually, there were three main axis:
1) Deteriorating quality of the public education has left the middle and lower class students with a higher hurdle when competing for university placement, so they are categorically excluded from the elite class. This problem comes not only from the lousy Libtard "education experts" but also through the encouragement and indulgence of the vested class both by means of propaganda and political shaping. The United Kingdom has at least recognized the severity and has set about making reforms; the United States is devoid of both the will and the capability to reform.
2) De-industrialization and financialization of the economy came just too rapid, making the transition of the middle class impossible. Financial sector is inherently disposed to monopolize the whole of market profits. Globalization has further promoted the outsourcing of manufacturing jobs, a great impetus to give up employment in lieu of higher profits. Under Liberal Economics-led policies, both countries are pushed to the extreme in the pursuit of forever higher return rate. Britain and US work from shoulder to shoulder in this respect. As such, the salaried class are left with no choice other than either unemployment or the impotence to demand any salary increase or both. Britain has at least universal health insurance and other welfare protections whereas the United States is somewhat inferior to the Third World countries in these aspects.
3) The rotting of the ruling class and the foolishness of voters from the lower and lower middle class complement each other, ensuring that any reforming force is "turned the other way round", cracking and deepening the division even further. I have already illustrated this process several times before logically and with supporting evidence, but the development of the past two years, and the retrogression especially after the election of President Trump ( such thing as tax cuts for the wealthy people), nonetheless is beyond the imagination of any people of the right mind. Such historic populism is phenomenal, it's a great leap forward from quantitative to qualitative change !

A Brief History of Temps de Flors
A small event held in the City Hall's Lounge in 1954 has become Girona's major international festival.
The history of Girona, Temps de Flors is also a story of young entrepreneurs who, in 1954, decided to organize the first edition of what they called the Provincial Flower Exhibition and Competition in the Lounge of the Municipal Theatre. The positive response and interest from visitors encouraged them to develop an event that has become Girona's major international festival, an activity that attracts people from all over the world.
The festival grew year after year, both in terms of the venue and the increasing involvement of the city's citizens and social fabric. From the Lounge, which became too small that first year, it moved to the Parchment Room of the Public Library and later to the Monastery of Sant Pere de Galligants. Later, the festival moved to the convent and cloister of Sant Domènec, and subsequently expanded to various courtyards and gardens in the Barri Vell (Old Quarter), such as Plaça dels Jurats, the Cathedral cloister, and the gardens of Plaça de Narcís Figueras.
The festival's evolution reached a pivotal point in 1979, when it was first organized by the Association of Friends of Flowers and Gardens. Later, in 1983, the Association of Friends of Old Girona also became involved, securing the opening of many other private courtyards and gardens that remained closed to the public for the rest of the year. In 1992, the Girona City Council definitively became involved in the organization. The convergence of these events represented a decisive qualitative and quantitative leap for the festival's growth.
For over six decades, Rosa Maria Labayen, David Marca, and Josep Tarrés maintained the traditional spirit of the renowned flower show, an event that fills all the residents of Girona with pride. They made it an essential icon of the city, and it is thanks to them that Girona, Temps de Flors (Girona Flower Festival) truly succeeds.
In any case, I wanted to photograph the castle in the Speicherstadt in Hamburg. What a spring-like day in Hamburg. Had not thought that is so empty here and I'm the only one who photographs the castle at this time. Berlin is unfortunately always quite crowded for comparison and no matter at what time. The photo was taken here on the Poggenmühlen bridge. This bridge is not a beauty but it has charm as almost everything in the Speicherstadt.
Now to the actual photo, the castle of this there are countless beautiful photos. But it is also clear that everyone who is engaged in photography would like to face this task during a visit. So let's not talk about quality anymore. Qualitative are most of the photos I have seen so far. So how can I manage to convince with a new photography? Of course, I thought about this in advance, if the weather permits, how such a photograph of the castle could look like. Elements of a LE are beautiful, but mostly so not plannable. I decided with this location but still to this version of a LE.
Of course I edit my raw's. in Lightroom ;) I have when photographing no desire to pay attention to things such as white balance. The time is much too precious than to deal now still at the camera with any settings. I correct that later in the photo development in peace.
I feel spring coming, but where has the time gone?
So go ahead and on to the most beautiful hobby the world, of photography......... ᵗʱᵃᵑᵏઽ* (uωu 人) fr̅a̅n̅k

- Keefer Lake, Ontario, Canada -
Although I prefer sunrises to sunsets at Keefer Lake the light is always magical at both ... even if they are qualitatively very different. This photo is taken from my boat looking north. The small beach is a public boat launch area for those who want to fish Keefer Lake but don't live here. My house is west of here (to the left in the photo).

A beautiful ,very approachable Duck.
One of only two " Torrent Ducks" in the world and if not more carefully looked after there shall only be one.
As a boy in the bush with my Dad they were very abundant and he could gauge the amount of rain over summer qualitatively not precisely by how far out of the river bed these birds chose to nest.
If I remember rightly it was pretty accurate.

Happy New Year, folks
This year, I’ve coined a new phrase to add to the lexicon of already impenetrable photographic jargon which we all love to use- and that is the Photography Hardship Coefficient (PHC). As I’m not a mathematician, this is of course a purely qualitative assessment representing the physical pain to perceived reward ratio for any given image. For instance, whilst attempting some hi speed photography last year with our newly acquired TriggerTrap device, my very good friend and fellow Flickrite (DW) managed to shoot a hole through his garage door. And of course there was no image to show for it as neither of us had actually bothered to read the manual or set up the hardware properly. However, there was quite a lot of pain when his partner returned home. In this situation the PHC (which equals the amount of pain taken to get the image divided by how well you think the image came out) approached infinity as the denominator was zero (no image). This isn’t a great result. And neither was the other weekend, when a long hike in Snowdonia resulted in some distinctly poor images from me and a bad dose of man flu.
But at the other end of the spectrum, there’s this place in Lofoten, which couldn’t really be much easier to shoot. Ok, it took 3 flights to get there from the UK but it’s not like you have to do anything other than sip G&T in airport lounges for a day. And once you’re there, there’s even a handy bridge to shoot from just a few short steps from the car park. In fact, the only pain is trying to find a spot that’s not already occupied by a dozen other photographers. Oh, and remembering to bring a tall enough tripod to clear the rail. Costas. All of a sudden, the PHC looks much better, no matter how your image comes out.
And so, as I recover from my severe case of grippe d’homme by watching a 12 hour real time train journey across Uzbekistan on Netflix, I’m thinking that this year will be different. My aim is to reduce my photography hardship coefficient as much as possible- something that maybe our world leaders could also consider if they were to change the P to Political.
Wishing you all a very happy new year. While it still lasts

The department of mechanical, civil and computer science engineering got this prestigious accreditation valid till 2027
The National Board of Accreditation (NBA) under Washington Accord was established in the year 1994 under Section 10 (u) of AICTE Act in order to assess the qualitative competence of programs offered by Technical Institutions from Diploma to Post graduate level in Engineering & Technology, Management, Pharmacy & Architecture, etc. NBA accredits programs and not the institutions. In the year 2010, NBA became autonomous with the objective of assurance of quality and relevance of technical education through accreditation of programs. In the year 2013, Memorandum of Association (MOA) and Rules of NBA were amended to make it completely independent administratively as well as financially.
Accreditation is a process of quality assurance and improvement, whereby a program is critically appraised to verify that the program continues to meet and / or exceeds the norms and standards prescribed by the regulatory authority from time to time.
NBA does not accredit institutions, instead, it accredits the programs offered by technical / professional institutions which have graduated at least two batches
T'was the night before Christmas.....
Color science can be a bit of a fallacy especially since most people are talking about in-camera JPEG colors.
Next, pleasing colors are not necessarily correct and correct colors are not always attractive.
I struggled with “Sony colors” initially years ago when I first got into Sony although it was mostly down to my lack of post processing skills. I was already shooting with Nikon and Olympus then. My preference was Nikon and Olympus colors, not that one was better than the other but rather, it’s all a matter of “preference”. Certain brand fanbois shills like to turn what is essentially a matter of preference into an absolute qualitative statement especially when it’s not even a problem of the RAW files.
The fundamental problem was not the Sony RAW files but a lack of a dedicated RAW developer that is optimised for Sony files for most users who are not sophisticated enough to create their own color profile.
Raw files don't really store any colors per pixel. They only store a single brightness value per pixel, Bayer interpolation takes place in the software opening the raw data. It’s the RAW developer that affects color the most, not so much the camera since the signals in the RAW file are not colors.
Canon, Nikon and Olympus always had their in-house designed native RAW developers.
Sony users get to use Capture One (“Express” version is free), a 3rd party RAW developer which personally was not properly optimised for Sony files and needed to be tweaked in the earlier versions. The latest version of Capture One however finally seems to have reached an entirely different level with much less tweaking necessary.

Excerpt from mylakeviewvillage.com/artists/mihyun-maria-kim:
Remembering Four Sisters
By referencing transgenerational trauma (through divorce, immigration, war, class divide), building of identity, dealing with contrasting sociocultural norms, I find relatable entry into other common histories in the likes of a qualitative researcher- collecting stories as data- and interpret this into autoethnographic works. These interests were born from the efforts to understand ‘Han’, a Korean word describing “shared suffering” since the divide, and also for someone who carries grief or a longing. When researching into the site of Lakeview, I was confronted with two histories: the Lakeview Generating Station and the four smokestacks nicknamed ‘Four Sisters’, and the women who worked to support the men at war, during WWII, in the nearby Small Arms Inspection Building. The mural is an attempt at reminding the Mississauga community, and informing visitors, of these stories to look into our past for strength as we continue to build into the future.

Photo bearing the very same title of an earlier shot of mine taken in October 2010, because it is portraying, in essence, a very similar scene: the shadow of Mount Rocciamelone (3.538 m), Italy, covering at sunset the Viù Valley below. Look to the blue cone visible on the top left of the image.
Hence the title of course, since it seems to see a mountain on the left, but in reality it is just a shadow, so "The Mountain Who Wasn't There".
Here you can see the shot taken in 2010 www.flickr.com/photos/13980928@N03/5120485878/in/photolis...
Comparing the two shots I have to say that perhaps the light captured in 2010 was better, I guess due to the fact that being the shadow slightly to the left it allowed the chain of mountains below to shine a bit more in the sunset.
Nevertheless the photo I am posting now is technically more perfect having been realized with tripod and with a photographic equipment qualitatively far superior. The lakes below, even the river, are more visible. The differences between colors are much better defined as the shades in between, a very important aspect when dealing with such a complex situation of colors and light like this one.
So I say, I will keep both photos... each one tells me something. Certainly the affection I have for the shoot of 2010 remains unchanged, because that moment was the first time I saw this wonderful shadow, so that picture, in itself, even if taken on the fly, for me contains the charm of the "act of discovery".
Instead, the picture of today represents the need to continue to live and document certain emotions, knowing that even if similar will never be the same, maybe it's a homecoming, to what I already know, that made me fall in love.

Salto cualitativo:
Ya no solo por cambiar de montaña: Kilimanjaro, el techo de Africa con 5892m;
ni de continente: Africa;

Qualitative leap:
Not only by change of mountain: Mount Kilimanjaro, the roof of Africa with 5892m;
nor continent: Africa;
but also the new acquisition at the end of 2015: my new camera full frame NIKON D750.
Without a doubt a great qualitative leap.
2016 meant a big change in my photography with the help of a photography course at the end of that year.
I hope you notice this change and you'll constructively criticize my work. Always, I try to improve and learn from everything and everyone.

is it better to find solitude so to clear your head & heart, but ultimately lack someone there with you once you have? yes. loneliness and yearning help to ground feelings and give depth to dreams. ideally, there is an element of grace and modesty that one derives from his or her lowest points; in sadness, we grasp that happiness is finite, fickle, fortuitous, and gone as fast as it came, as are we, as is everything, always. in our finitude, we live love hate laugh cry want desire think see hear speak feel wonder, why? many seek to discover the true nature of one particular thing by differentiating it from other things -- that is, qualitatively understanding what it is not. having been drenched in sadness, happiness is that much like ecstasy, fleeting but rich as rich can be. having been lonely, company is that much more sought and treasured. presumably, one will take and store these all, moving on with a greater strength of character.
game, set, match.

Kairos (καιρός) is an ancient Greek word meaning the right or opportune moment. The ancient Greeks had two words for time, chronos and kairos. While the former refers to chronological or sequential time, the latter signifies a time in between, a moment of undetermined period of time in which something special happens. What the special something is depends on who is using the word. While chronos is quantitative, kairos has a qualitative nature.[1]
All want the peace of the world, the resolution of conflicts that cause us stress, whether wars between nations or a daily battle that each of us faces to win, first, the survival and, when very lucky, a good quality of life.
Although the desire for global conquest of a different social structure, the impression we have is that we tend to maintain inequalities or even aggravation of the same.
Two causes can be pointed to the persistence the hunger, disease, war and devastating death of our planetary family:
- The first is the insistence on maintaining a society based on competition and political-economic values that surpass human values (individual or social). Thus, the solutions of progress and globalization are always hostage to the need for profit and, invariably, ineffective in the majority. Therefore we have a static society, with a small elite at the center and the vast majority of the population in the periphery, on the verge of decision processes and culture.
- The second issue is that the sectors engaged in pursuit of the Peace, are related to philosophy, science, religion or art, think and act in an isolated mode, taking divergent paths, increasing social tensions.
We must change these paradigms leading a peaceful and positive emotion in static structure with a qualitative transformation of contemporary values!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I love this wig. When I put it on and look in the mirror, I feel like my alter ego or just an entirely different person... like I've lost my self and found something qualitatively and quantitatively new. Free to start over again -- kind of a tabula rasa (blank slate) -- with a spotless mind.
"How happy is the blameless vestal's lot!
Each world forgetting, by the world forgot.
Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind!
Each pray'r accepted, and each wish resign'd."
-- Alexander Pope
I prefer the alter ego route. Let's call her Lola.
Song: "L'amour est un Oiseau Rebelle" from Carmen, sung by Maria Callas
out of the blue my mom IM's me, 'are you happy?'
i thought to myself, what a rotten question to ask someone first thing in the morning. if i was nursing a secret depression, barely keeping my mask from grenading on my face, then this question would pull the pin. if i was nominally happy, then the question would invariably make me think about why i was happy - which would violate some quantum event-observer state and collapse the whole happy phenom. but my mom's intentions are good-hearted and sincere, so i answered:
ty: happy is as happy does
mom: 'and Life is just a box of chocolates'
ty: yes- i am happy.
ty siscoe: why?
mom: was just hoping that you were.
ty: i dont think life is about being happy. that was boomer hippie ideology
and that was our little white-feather-joy luck club minute.
but what is life about? what are your choices? self-indulgent interior exploration? self-negating altruism? an untested submission in religion? a nietzschean will to power? each choice here has its noble, brilliant side. equally, they all have a seedy, trog, dark side of the moon.
artists never truly love another, a parent's life is surrendered to the autocracy of the child, blind sheep are eventually sheared and slaughtered, Nietzsche's Superman was nothing more than a morphine-fueled intellectual tantrum.
so how am i happy? in this 15 billion-year old incomprehensibly chaotic and complex universe, i have carved out a niche where there are people in my life that i love and who love me. this is no trite feat and should never be taken for granted or for advantage.
and consider this: the fact you are reading this right now means you have a computer and an internet connection which implies that you possess an education and a reasonable curiousity; that you benefit from living in a modern technological society, you enjoy statistically decent health, and have enough free time and material substance to seek entertainment or knowledge. in short, the fact that you are here right this minute means that you are living a quantitatively better existence than 98% of all humans that have ever lived. quantitatively - not qualitatively. the quality is up to you. that's your burden and gift.
are you happy? count to ten and see if that question blows up in your face.

Although used a flash, obviously, for these shots, this is the only one that produced a starburst effect. I have no idea why it happened; I took many shots with the same settings but none turned out like this, qualitatively speaking. Hooray for randomness!

I'm always busy with photos and photographing others but I never really took the time to get an actual qualitative photo of ME. Luckily there's someone who has my back and jumped right on the opportunity to change that. A proud Hya!
I love my Hya's look. Every part of it makes a whole I fall in love with every day. When I was ready to make the big change to my new shape I had a few things that I wanted to keep: my red hair, white skin, green eyes and a bit of a resting b*tch face. Stern if you will. She's all I want her to be <3

I haven't had a chance to get out and shoot much lately but I am hoping to change that in the coming months. This was an image I captured last month on a quick run through Oregon. The sunset looked promising but never materialized. It was still a nice day on the lake.

A nice little wooden bridge and a fun place to return to every once in a while on your way back from Lower Lewis. Bluey and I stopped here last October trying to catch some fall color in the area and as always the water was smooth as glass.

When this Black Bear - the one we called Georgina, aka The World's Coolest Bear - came up with a salmon she had chased down and isolated in a rockbound pool, she flashed a look... there was an indisputable wildness in her eyes... and I was reminded of this: that whatever adjectives I might find to describe her quite likely are false. They're projections. Noble. Laid-back. Cute. At best, they are only a small part of the unfathomable "otherness" of a wild creature.
It isn't a great shot - by which I'm referring to truly great photography. The legs are blocked from view by a huge rock. The background is a little messy. It's a good shot, although I have better. But those eyes... if they are a window to the soul, then we are getting a glimpse into the soul of a wild bear: just a glimpse. And what does she see when her gaze lands on us? (She can see us, after all; contrary to widespread belief, bears have very good eyesight.) Therein lies the mystery. We can never know. Her brain works differently as it processes sensory information that is qualitatively different from ours; one of the fun aspects of wildlife photography is trying to understand the encounter from the animal's point of view. If we can arrive at informed conclusions, perhaps we might predict what they will do next.
We were working at close range. For the three weeks I camped in the area, these bears were just across the spawning channel. This wasn't a wildlife tour and there was no safety net. We carried bear spray and were grateful that we never came close to using it. For the most part, the bears tolerated us. But I believe they expect good behaviour from us, just as much as we hope for the same from them, and that includes recognizing their need for space. Two years ago I watched a woman who is a very good photographer (and has a Flickr account) set up in their path of travel, and then when approached closely by a bear, she had her spray out, ready to use. Gross, arrogant, stupid, insensitive, greedy... I can find more adjectives for her behaviour than descriptors for the bears, and feel more confident that I'm being fairly accurate. A wild bear, on the other hand, is a wild mystery. You can see it in the look; it's unmistakable. We can observe and record, take photos and notes, speculate and predict, but even if we do all of the above with the greatest respect, there will be more questions than answers.

Just a quick shot from the famous 12th street bridge last night. Sunset didn't quite go off like I had hoped but the blue hour did not disappoint.

Bokeh (derived from Japanese, a noun boke 暈け, meaning "blur" or "haze") is a photographic term referring to the æsthetic quality of the out-of-focus areas of an image produced by a camera lens using a shallow depth of field.[1] Essentially, bokeh is an aesthetic and qualitative measure of light distortion in the out-of-focus areas of an image, and is primarily caused by lens aberrations and aperture shape.
It can be pronounced /ˈboʊkeɪ/ or /ˈboʊkə/ (boke-aay[3] or boke-uh)

Bluey and I came across this bridge yesterday out digging around for fall color. The fog was a nice touch.
