Painted in 1995 at the Bomb Shelter in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Freestyle. Nothing really special happened this day. Just a solo mission for "Qpid the Lover". That's right, the "Lover". I love me some Rusto Silver. Rusto Silver with some cool Krylon colors over it. Back in the day, that was my winning ticket. You just can't go wrong with some silver. Still to this day, I think I could do all my pieces from here on out with silver. Anyway, enough about silver. To those that don't know, the Romans took the Greek Gods and made them less dangerous or cooler then they actually were to make their Gods inferior to the Roman Gods. From that point, The Greek God "Eros" was changed into many different forms over the years until it became known as "Cupid". That Cherib looking little fucker that goes around shooting heart arrows that make people fall in love. I hate that shit. Anyway, I used to write Qpid as an alias for EROS. I just like the idea of using some different letters and the fact that it basically meant the same thing, made it much cooler to me. By using Qpid it had given me a whole new array of ideas and styles that I could run with and Q's really didn't get much play in the Gralphabet. So it was really intriguing to me to try to make the letter/s funky. I probably did maybe 5-10 pieces at the most with Qpid before I realized that by using an alias, you lose some of the notoriety that your original name should be receiving for all the work you put in. Therefore, I put it to the side for the time being. I still draw Qpid pieces, Throws and tags and probably will come back out and rock some more at some point. For now, I'm just enjoying keeping it simple. Fun Times!

Not much of a V-Day person, as its pretty much just a day where the Bachelors drown their sorrow in candy. Whatevs, in total I've eaten three donuts, a bowl of ice cream, and some V-Day candy :P Pretty unusual as I hardly ever eat that many desserts! Anywho, I haven't made an LOH character in awhile, so I figured today would be the perfect excuse to post one. Enjoy!
Real Name: Angel Frostpebbles
Alias: Qpid
Powers: Wings that can flutter at and amazing pace, and an incredibly accurate bow and arrow.
Backstory: As a child, Angel was always caring and though of others. Every day, he would do nice gestures for people because that's what he loved doing. Valentine's Day was always his favourite holiday, as he got to do what he loved most! Unfortunately, he ad a rough childhood. His parents neglected him and often fought, which put Angel under a lot of stress. One day when his parents were busy arguing, Angel was exploring outside and stumbled upon a mysterious tree. He peered into an opening in the tree, and fell into a huge pit. Turns out, he had just discovered fairy territory! Angel was amazed at the little fairies that inhabited that tree, as they were so delicate and caring. Unfortunately, the only way to get out was to grow wings. So the fairies decided that they would raise Angel to become one of them. Over the course of a few years, he learned how to be one of them and eventually grew wings. He wished the fairies goodbye, and left the tree to see what the world had become. It was overrun by technology, and Angel feared that all tis technology would cause lots of bad things to happen. So he became known as the vigilante Qpid! Everyday on February 14th since then, he would spread good cheer to everyone and graciously hand out candy. When he was not doing that, he would protect anyone in danger using his bow and arrow.

The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum here in New York City has a great Star Trek exhibition running through until the end of October: the Starfleet Academy Experience.
As a cadet at the academy, a wide range of interactive exhibits allow you to diagnose injured Klingons in sick bay, set phasers to stun in security, investigate the unknown at different science stations, and so much more.
Scattered throughout the interactive exhibits are actual costumes and props used in the Star Trek shows. Lined up here in the command area are the uniforms of all our favorite Starfleet captains. From left is Captain Archer from Enterprise, Captain Kirk from the original series, Commander Sisko of Deep Space Nine, Captain Picard's Robin Hood costume from the Next Generation's Qpid episode and, lastly, Captain Janeway of Voyager.
I thought Picard's Robin Hood costume seemed a bit out of place here next to the other captains but his Starfleet uniform was already on display elsewhere. If I was running this exhibit, I think I would have switched Picard's costume display.

Freestyle painted in 1997 at The Bomb Shelter in Minneapolis. The piece reads Qpid for Cupid. EROS is also known as Cupid in a lot of cultures. I was looking for a different alias with some different letters and I thought that this one would work great. I remember thinking how fresh it would be to rock some dope ass Q's. Although do-able, the four letters in this word are not the greatest letter combinations for many reasons. Either way, no big deal. It's all still a good time to just get out and paint. I wasn't able to post yesterday due to being out of town, so I will have to post an extra one today, to make up for my photos absence. I've been on a mission to post something new to the account everyday. So far, it's been a lot of fun and a real cool experience to be able to share with a pretty multi-faceted, international, audience. I just want to send a big thanks out to those who check the account regularly and offer comments. It makes an old guy like me feel like all those younger years of hard work, weren't for nothing.

* 1st Gen: A sophomoric effort on my part, and while it functioned in principle, it was basically a memory pig and not very sophisticated.
* 2nd Gen: Based largely on an automated smoker, called the QPID. That code was also a pig, no fault of Mark Patel's QPID code, and had a lot of memory related issues - crashes, and was too unreliable. I still hadn't learned what was going on - I was running the controller out of memory and didn't realize it.
*3rd Gen: Introduced the "Blackwidow" Arduino clone with built-in WiFi. The WiFi and web server code took up so much memory, that a second micro controller was needed to split the code, creating a master/slave configuration. It was very unreliable.
*4th Gen: Saw a complete rewrite of the Master controller, using a brilliant task scheduler design, allowing the controller to handle many concurrent tasks, running without all the memory issues of the previous design. The web/WiFi slave board still had issues, and I never quite got the master/slave sharing of information working as I wanted. However, at this point the two controllers were completely autonomous, and the Master could run and control the Coop-O-Matic without the slave being connected.
*5th Gen: This generation saw the introduction of WebSockets which would not run on the BlackWidow board. I purchased an Arduino Ethernet board, and while the WebSockets/Pusher libraries would work when I had the board plugged directly into my main network switch, when I placed it out on the WiFi spur (via a long-haul point-to-point antenna and a remote bridge NAT), it would not work. I did get the master/slave handshaking working very well, thanks to another new library.
I was relying on NTP to set the time of the controller, which would allow me to fire off commands at specific times - such as after Sunrise and Sunset to open and close the coop. The problems with the networking card made this impossibly unreliable though, and so I opted for the Adafruit RTC1307 battery backed-up real time clock. BRILLIANT!

With QPID's control algorithm now running quite nicely, I logged data during a recent rib smoking to see just how good it is. Weather conditions were cool and windy, so it was a good test for the system.
The plot shows that the actual temperature (red) stays within 2 degrees of the target temperature (blue), which is way better than I could ever hope to do adjusting the dampers by hand. The green line shows how the fan speed adjusts to maintain the desired temperature.
The yellow line shows the average fan utilization gradually increasing as the fuel is consumed. The QPID software monitors this value and sends an alert when it exceeds a preset threshold. Since I'd like a little advanced warning, I think 70% would be a good value.
