Couldn't resist another bee shot! There have been so many in my garden and I love watching them. They also bring to mind the above qoutation from The Tempest, my favourite Shakespeare play. On our last day in Adelaide we went to the Botanic Gardens. It is such a beautiful and peaceful place, so we decided to stay there for the day. I took a gazillion photos.
On our way to the airport we looked for an op-shop where we could drop off several huge windbreakers that were amongst Toby's property. As they're bulky and not of great sentimental value to us, we decided not to bring them with us back to Perth. We drove around looking for a while without any success, until Brad had the bright idea to ask at a service station. The man working there said, he'd drop them into an op-shop on his way home. We met a lot of friendly helpful people in Adelaide. It's a very mellow city. I understand why Toby liked it so much.
I had mixed feelings about leaving. It felt a little bit like we'd been visiting Toby there, and when we left, we'd be leaving her behind and coming home without her again. Brad said that's because we lost her here. It's also because I feel her presence in Adelaide more than I do in Perth. Not that I think she's there - even in spirit. It just that it's easy to imagine her there. For instance, late one night Brad and I walked into the Peak service station on Hindley Street to get crisps, and I suddenly had a sense that Toby would almost certainly have done the same thing when she was staying in the area. Or we'd be walking through an arcade where a shop was selling Hello Kitty merchandise and I'd wonder whether Toby had been there because she liked Hello Kitty. Or we'd be driving along and suddenly pass Sunny's Backpacker Hostel where she'd stayed for a while and I'd peer into the courtyard because I'd read that's where she used to sit.
I don't think it would be like that if I returned to Adelaide in five years, but the connections with Toby are still fresh and in my imagination she's still roaming around Adelaide. And I didn't want to leave. But once we landed in Perth, for the first time in a long while, it felt good to be home - and it felt like perhaps we'd collected up and brought home some of the scattered moments Toby left behind.

I think this sculpture had political motivation as a sign nearby had the names of recent world leaders scrolled on it... another sign nearby read "Ensemble pour la Paix et la Justice" and had G7 in qoutation marks. So my dear Watson I deduce that this scuIpture was placed here to commemorate the G7 Summit held in Lyon in1996.
But, then again I could be completely wrong and it could be just a bunch of guys trying to pry their globe out of a hole... ?
