When I was a kid we called these girly pushups. If you were caught by one of the other boys doing them this way, your life was over. It didn't matter that I was a weakling and could only do one regular pushup.
Eight Israeli soldiers joined us as peers for 6 days, and they were awesome. Their names were Mor, Bar, Barack, Gal, Ofri, O'fear, Liat, and Yarden. Service in the Israeli army is a mandatory 2 years for girls, and 3 for guys, starting at age 18. Our friendships with them were formed almost immediately. Everyone was in the same age range, and it was very interesting to learn how different their lives are from ours, but also incredible how much we had in common. They are just as addicted to their cell phones and Facebook as American students, and we shared a lot of the same interests in movies, tv, and pop culture.
On the morning of our sunrise hike up Mt. Masada, our soldiers pulled a prank on us. As we arrived at the base of the peak, the soldiers started yelling and screaming at us to get off the bus and line up. They were giving us a little taste of the army. I got called out for laughing too much and was made to give Mor 20 pushups. Then they gave us some war paint and told us to get our asses up the mountain.
