The castle of Venus is a 12th century Norman castle that stands on an isolated cliff in the south-eastern corner of the summit of Mount Erice, in the province of Trapani, built on the ruins of an Elymian-Phoenician-Roman temple. At its side are the Balio Towers.
Petralia Soprana is located in the heart of Sicily, in the province of Palermo.
It is the highest town in the Madonie mountains, it dominates a vast landscape that ranges from the snow-capped peaks of Etna, to the city of Enna and the mountains of Palermo and then the wide valleys and waterways of the countryside that surround it.
A center of considerable importance during the Greek and Carthaginian domination, Petralia was the first Sicilian city to be dominated by the Romans, called "Petra" it was one of the cities that supplied the largest quantities of grain to the Roman Empire.
Following the Arab conquest, its name was changed to “Batraliah” and it became a powerful defensive stronghold at the time of the Normans.
Even today the town still preserves its medieval urban structure intact, with narrow paved streets, churches and noble palaces, suggestive courtyards and linear stone houses that widen into suggestive little squares and splendid views.
In 2018 it was awarded the title of "Most beautiful village in Italy".

At 9PM went for a walk with a friend to explore the area along the river. It was 15F (-9c) and 5.5 hours past sunset – not the best time for shooting, but I only had one night in town so wanted to make the most of it.
This is the Szczecin Province Office built in 1911 that sits upon a small hill and overlooks the river.

These small owls nest in the ruins of an abandoned village in the Natural Park of the lagoons of Villafàfila.
Very curious, they were intrigued by the end of the telephoto lens that protruded from the camouflage cape.
According to Venetian official statistics approximately 16 million people visited the province of Venice in 2011, with increases projected for 2012-13. Most if not all visitors, come to visit the central island Venezia in order to see and be in the heart of the city. Geographically the city center which includes St. Mark’s Basilica, St Mark’s Square, the Doge’s Palace, the Rialto Bridge, as well as the homes and businesses of Venetians exists on a land mass that is roughly six square miles. These six square miles are criss-crossed by the Grand and the not-so-grand canals which invite tourists to explore the nooks and crannies of a medieval powerhouse that still displays its heritage.
However, as a frame of reference, visitors should do the math. Public access to the six square miles of the central part of Venice is reduced by the areas occupied by private housing, businesses and by canals. Effectively the 80,000 to 100,000 daily visitors and the 40,000 to 60,000 local residents or business employers and employees are competing for approximately one to two square miles of open space. Regardless of the crowds it should be noted that while tourists may travel stem to stern in seemingly endless lines of gondolas, on Venice’s solid ground no car, bus or motor scooter challenges a visitor’s right to live long and prosper. In Venice the trucks, cars, and buses come with keels and rudders. All vie for space on and in the canals. Gondoliers weave their boats and passengers through the Grand Canal water traffic much like carriage driver guide their clip-clopping horse drawn carriages through any busy city’s tourist center. To paraphrase Shakespeare, in Venice all the water’s a stage,

The Guillemins station changes its face and is adorned with shimmering colors. This is the project led by the Belgian group Uhoda, in collaboration with the SNCB, the city of Liège, the Province of Liège and the Wallonia-Brussels Federation.
If the Guillemins station is the work (of art, some would say but for me yes!) of the Spanish architect and visual artist Santiago Calatrava, it is another artist, French this one, who has the heavy task of sublimate the building: Daniel Buren. He is a painter, sculptor and visual artist, and is known for his very colorful works. One of his most recent and remarkable creations is “The Observatory of Light”. In 2016, the French artist covered the glass panels that make up the Fondation Louis Vuitton building with colored filters. And it is the same project that he is carrying out at the Guillemins station. An ephemeral work which, if it sees the light of day, will be visible for a year.
however, the total budget amounts to more than 350,000 euros!
