I stopped by Abby's nest this past Monday and was happy to finally see that there were what I thought was 2 chicks .

At this young age they spend most of their time laying low, so I'd never get more than a glimpse of one popping up for a second or two before disappearing again.

On Tuesday I stopped back when I had more time to observe.

John showed back up with lunch, flew into the nest for a minute, and then took back off to sit on a pole and make sure the fish was no longer flapping, before bringing it back to the kids.

When I was checking the series of shots I took as he was flying off with the fish, this was the very last shot in the series....and the only one that revealed that there are actually not two, but THREE chicks!! Triplets! How cool!

6 But godliness cwith contentment is great gain, 7 for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world. 8 But if we have food and clothing, with these we will be content. 9 But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation, into a snare, into many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. 10 For the love of money is a root of iall kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs.

Canary Wharf tube station is a London Underground station on the Jubilee line, between Canada Water and North Greenwich. Opened on 17 September 1999 as part of the Jubilee Line Extension. Over 40 million people pass through the station each year, making it not only the busiest station on the London Underground outside Central London but also the busiest that serves only a single line. (The DLR station is completely separate.)

Had to check on the burrowing owls again today, even though it was trying to rain (in SoCal terminology, that's a mist falling). This happy couple has at least 5 little owlets to feed, but mom got this meal delivered from dad and I think she kept this one for herself. He brought in 2 or 3 more which were fed to the little ones. Cool stuff.

Preparing for a show in February 2008. this will be one of my paintings. About a 16x20 on felt board done with pastel chalk.

I can't find much information about this airframe, except that it flew with 310th SOS at Phan Rang AB in Vietnam.

Lackland AFB is part of the Air Education and Training Command (AETC) and has an impressive collection of vintage aircraft.

Actually, we called him Daddy .....never "Father, Dad, or Pops." Those names did not seem to fit him. He was our leader, our example, our provider--definitely the man of the house. I have few tangible reminders of Daddy, but many great memories and life lessons learned. I recently picked up this old booklet entitled simply "Time". He used this and similar books to record his hours worked (primarily in construction) and to calculate his weekly wages. Times were hard back then, but Daddy managed to raise 7 children on meager wages. We never seemed to lack necessities. What we lacked in "extras" was made up many times over with love and nurturing.

Happy Fathers Day, Daddy.

Forsake Me Not When My Strength Is Spent

71 In you, O LORD, do I take refuge;

let me never be put to shame!

2 In your righteousness deliver me and rescue me;

incline your ear to me, and save me!

3 Be to me a rock of refuge,

to which I may continually come;

you have given the command to save me,

for you are my rock and my fortress.

4 Rescue me, O my God, from the hand of the wicked,

from the grasp of the unjust and cruel man.

5 For you, O Lord, are my hope,

my trust, O LORD, from my youth.

6 Upon you I have leaned from before my birth;

you are he who took me from my mother’s womb.

My praise is continually of you.

Psalm 119:154 (ESV)

154 Plead my cause and redeem me;

give me life according to your promise!

Redeemer, Redemption.

English words derived from a Latin root meaning “to buy back,” thus meaning the liberation of any possession, object, or person, usually by payment of a ransom. In Greek the root word means “to loose” and so to free. The term is used of freeing from chains, slavery, or prison. In the theological context, the term “redemption” indicates a freeing from the slavery of sin, the ransom or price paid for freedom. This thought is indicated in the Gospels, which speak of Christ who came “to give his life as a ransom for many” (Mt 20:28; Mk 10:45).

Old Testament Words.

For a full understanding of the concept of redemption, it is necessary to look at the OT. There are three different words used in Hebrew, depending on the particular situation, which convey the idea of redemption. The meaning of these redemptive terms rests on legal, social, and religious customs which are foreign to modern culture. An understanding of the culture is needed for an understanding of the terminology and its use.

The first term used for redemption has a legal context. The verb pādāh is used when an animal substitutes (or redeems) a person or another animal. The noun derived from the root means the ransom or price paid. In the Greek language this term is generally translated by the verb luō, which means “to loose.” The noun derived from this term, lutron, is the price paid for loosing or freeing, hence, the ransom.

When a living being, person or animal, requires redemption, the substitution must be made, or price paid, otherwise the being involved is killed (Ex 13:13; 34:20). However, there is evidence that this rule was not always strictly followed (Ex 21:8; Jb 6:23).

The concept of redemption had special significance for the firstborn. The firstborn male, both man and beast, belonged to God. In theory the firstborn was sacrificed to him. This was done in the case of many animals, but the human firstborn and some animals were redeemed (Ex 13:13; 34:20; Nm 18:15, 16). In the redemption of the firstborn son, an animal was substituted, although later a sum of money was paid (Nm 18:16). Unclean animals were redeemed by substitutions of a sacrificial animal or put to death (Ex 13:13; 34:20; Nm 18:15).

A special case was the animal or person promised to the Lord. Such a one was sacrificed without exception. The Lord made no allowance for the redemption of persons or animals so dedicated.

However, in the case of King Saul and his son an exception was made (1 Sm 14:24–46). Saul had placed a curse on anyone eating on the day of a particular battle. When he learned that his son, Jonathan, had (unknowingly) violated his edict, he still ordered him put to death. The people intervened and redeemed Jonathan by substituting an animal sacrifice in his place.

The second term involved is the Hebrew root gā’al, which is used primarily in relation to family rules and obligations, the laws governing family property rights and duties. For example, should a piece of property be lost to a family member, the next-of-kin had both the right and the obligation to redeem this property. This right of redemption protected the family inheritance. The noun derived from this root is equivalent to the English root redemption, and the person who buys back the property is the goel or redeemer.

In honor of Father's Day ... to all of the dads out there ... I wanted to highlight one o the many "providers" out there in the natural world.

So here's an image of a mature great horned owl, I believe to be the male of a mated pair, with 2 babies. Like our own dads, they are providers for their young, not only provider food for them to eat and grow up, but also for protection and teaching of skills that will help in the survival of their young. These dads are ever vigilent and help out with the mom as she raises her young as well.

Many say that the great horned owls represent wisdom (right? the "wise old owl"). I know that my own dad was both provider and teacher to me ... and I miss him dearly. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't feel his presence. I'm sure on this day, many of you can relate.

To all of the dads out there, whether it be of a biological nature or a role they willingly accepted along the way ... whether to our own babies or our fur-babies or feathered babies or whatever ... Thanks for all that you do. :-)

Happy Father's Day! Thanks for stopping by to view.
