Cistus salviifolius by Daniel Arrhakis (2017)
Cistus salviifolius, common names Sageleaf Rockrose, Salvia cistus or Gallipoli rose, is a perennial ligneous plant, low spreading evergreen shrub. of the family Cistaceae. Very erect shrub about two to three feet in height (Less than 1 m). The name salviifolius refers the wrinkled leaves similar to those of the sage. It is hardy to zone (UK) 8 and is not frost tender.
A Garden Variety Cistus salviifolius "Prostatus" grows up to 1-2 ft tall (30-60 cm) and spreads 6-8ft wide (180-240 cm).
The inflorescence holds one or more round flowers, long-stalked, arranged at the leaf axils. The five white petals have a yellow spot at the base, forming a corolla 4–6 cm in diameter. The stamens are also yellow and the anthers shed abundant yellow pollen. This plant is pollinated by insects entomophily, especially bees. The flowering period extends from April through May/June. The fruit is a pentagonal capsule, 5–7 mm long.
It cannot grow in the shade. It requires dry or moist soil and can tolerate drought and hot Summers. The plant can tolerate maritime exposure. From Mediterranean Macoronesian bioclimatic region, this plant prefers dry hills, scrubs and open woodlands, at an altitude of 0–1,200 metres (0–3,937 ft) above sea level. It grows very quickly after a fire.

Cistus salviifolius, nomes comuns em Portugal: Estevinha, Sargaço-manso, Sargaço-mouro, é uma planta lenhosa arbustiva perene da famÃlia Cistaceae, cujo Habitat/Ecologia na Região Mediterrânica são os Matos e Matagais . Arbusto com menos de 1 m de altura. O nome salviifolius refere-se as folhas enrugadas semelhantes à s da Sálvia.
Uma variedade de jardim Cistus salviifolius "Prostatus" cresce até 30-60 cm de altura e espalha-se até 180-240 cm; excelente para coberturas.
A inflorescência mantém uma ou mais flores redondas de pétalas alongadas dispostas nas axilas das folhas. As cinco pétalas brancas têm uma mancha amarela na base, formando uma corola de 4-6 cm de diâmetro. Os estames também são amarelos e as anteras derramam abundante pólen amarelo. Esta planta é polinizada por insectos, especialmente abelhas. O perÃodo de floração estende-se de Abril a Maio/Junho. O fruto é uma cápsula pentagonal, com 5-7 mm de comprimento.
Não pode crescer na sombra. Ele requer solo seco ou húmido e pode tolerar a seca e Verões quentes. A planta pode tolerar a exposição marÃtima e recupera rapidamente após os incêndios.

I think that this is an 'escaped' officinalis and not, much though I'd like it, a wild prostatus, which, as its name suggests, is low growing!
This was growing out of the top of a bramble heap around 4 ft high!
So you see, it's important that you eat your Asparagus, or they will grow into these monsters! 😄
Much as I love asparagus dipped in butter, or wiith a soft-poached egg on top, I also love to see these 'ferals' enjoying a full life cycle! Soon those berries will be bright red - such a sight!
